According to Jeffrey Ives, popular store J. Reid Menswear is “coming home.”
“When times are tough, you go home,” said Ives, “The pandemic has been the toughest time in most people’s lifetimes, and certainly for small businesses. In order to bring back J. Reid to its original glory, I thought it would be best to come home to a community that supports us like a family would.”
J. Reid associates are experts in men’s suits, sport coats, accessories, shoes, and tuxedo rentals. Previously known as Jonathan Reid, the menswear business is now located at 166 Glen Street in downtown Glens Falls. This site once served as the business’s home office, owned by original owner, Jonathan Segan, through 2007. More recently, the building housed Nine Authentic Goods, Reeds Home Décor, and HeadRush apparel.
“Ultimately, I thought it was time not only for the store to return to its roots, but for me and all of the other employees to be at the epicenter of community involvement,” said Ives. “Hometown USA knows how to support business, and the community cares not only for the financial success of your business, but for you and your fellow workers.”
J. Reid is well known for its community involvement, having lent support to Adirondack Theatre Festival, LARAC, Adirondack Thunder, the Open Door Mission, the Veterans Housing Coalition, and the South Glens Falls Marathon Dance, to name a few.
The business originally opened in 1965 in the Northway Plaza of Queensbury. In 1975, the store moved into the first area mall in Saratoga Springs, and soon after was one of the first tenants in Queensbury’s Aviation Mall. Through the 1980’s and 90’s the business expanded to include over 12 locations in the northeast. The business was sold to Jeffrey Ives, a J. Reid employee of over 15 years, in August 2015.
J. Reid opens its 166 Glen Street location on Monday, March 29. The store’s hours are Monday- Saturday, 11:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m., and Sundays noon-5:00 p.m.
