for about 30 years, i have been an auction-addict, and i am not planning to go to a 12 step program. yet. literally, everything in my cafe was someone elses and 90% of everything in my home may have been yours. i do love old, gently used or unusual stuff and the price is usually right, which makes the purchase exciting. more about my little problem later. however, about three weeks ago, there was a very different auction in bolton landing. up federal hill, there is a very special place, sweetpea perennial farm, owned by the perry’s, where hundreds of auction goers went to bid on…would you believe…adirondack chairs!! not any ole chairs, but beautifully, artistically designed and painted chairs. seventeen of them, each lovingly painted by 17 different artists. martin seelye was the auctioneer and his wit and charm was enjoyed by the diverse and well-healed crowd. a couple of those chairs sold for well over 1,000 dollars! all went for at least 500. and there will kids’ versions, selling for hundreds also. the food was delicious and plentiful, all donated, as was the wine and soda. there was even singing. i went with my new friend, sharon, who bid on a couple of the child’s chairs for her granddaughter. we met wonderful new people, the weather was perfect, the night was more than perfect and there was an auction whose proceeds went to charity!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
