i have been on a self proclaimed hiatus this summer. about the only things i have written are grocery lists and to-do lists for our catering business. hence the lack of blogging. and even now, i am thinking of all the “stuff” i will do tomorrow, monday. for a busy bakery-type kitchen one of the worst things that can happen is for the huge mixer to be broken. ours is. the worst part is that the elevator in the building is also broken so the repair people can’t get the mixer to the shop to fix it! we need bread for lunches as we sold all of the loaves at the farmers’ markets…..bolton landing and glens falls. if we have to buy bread for the cafe this week, i will be sad. in the 27 years we have been in business, we have always had bread so this will be a first. a silly bread story while i am on the yeasty subject. on thursday (before the mixer decided that it was tired), i was making cheese bread which is a new one for us. the recipe calls for yellow food coloring to make a more exciting appearance of cheese. i used the small amount of color i had and then decided to put some red in figuring that the bread would have an orangeish color (like yellow cheese). that did not happen….i had PINK bread. now what to do. decided to add roasted tomatoes and a jar of tomato pesto and some other herbs and go for it. note: food color always fades in a recipe so i was hoping for “the fade”. we also decided to make the bread into foccacia loaves – rectangular and flat. this i decided would help. it did. the fade was not as successful as i had hoped for, but when we tasted our new product….it was delicious. just close your eyes, and taste this stuff. again, delicious.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
