Seven years after startingM&S Precision Machine Co., LLC, in his garage, Mike Spirowski is watching construction of a new 8,000-square-foot facility for the growing Queensbury company he and David McDonald founded.<\/p>\n
The company machines parts for customers in the gas turbine, pulp and paper, and medical equipment industries primarily. They are currently located in rented space at 536 Queensbury Ave.<\/p>\n
The company moved to that location, from the garage, in January 2008 and doubled the size of its facility in January 2010. When they move to the new building, probably in August, they will almost double in size again.
\nThe new facility is less than half a mile from the current one, on Queensbury Avenue just off Casey Road, in the Washington Industrial Park.<\/p>\n
“From here, you can just about throw a stone and hit the new facility,” Spirowski said.<\/p>\n
Construction began in May. Steel work is currently going up. V&H Construction of Fort Edward is doing the building.<\/p>\n
Spirowski said it is the first new construction in that industrial part in six or seven years. The 8,000 square feet will be divided between a 6,000-square-foot workshop and 2,000 square feet of office space, and occupy about one and a half acres. He estimated total cost at about $500,000.<\/p>\n
Since its beginning, M&S Precision Machine has grown from the two original partners to a total of 13 people. That includes the office manager, Spirowski’s wife, and 10 machinists.<\/p>\n
Good machinists, Spirowski said, are “very, very difficult to find. We try to work with the schools,” he said.<\/p>\n
He and his partner work with Hudson Valley Community College and the local BOCES vocational school to try to assure that graduates of those schools have the skills M&S needs. They also provide internships and apprenticeships.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
