The Fund for Lake George announced that George R. Hearst lll and Dr. John E. Kelly lll have joined its board of trustees. Hearst and Kelly are both residents of Assembly Point on Lake George.<\/p>\n

“Both George and John bring not only their personal passion for Lake George, but also a global leadership perspective on the issue of sustainability and the wise protection of vital natural resources,” said Jeff Killeen, chairman of The Fund for Lake George. “With Lake George at a pivotal ‘inflection point’ – especially with regard to the threat from invasive species and long term water quality management – having distinguished leaders such as George and John join the Fund team could not be more timely or important.”
\nHearst is the publisher and CEO of the Albany Times Union, the largest multimedia company serving New York’s Greater Capital Region. He joined the newspaper in 1989 as director of operations and planning, and has subsequently served as a vice president, associate publisher and general manager.<\/p>\n

He is a director of the Hearst Corporation, and also serves on numerous local area boards including The Center for Economic Growth, The College of Saint Rose, St. Peter’s Health Partners, SPAC, The Center for Disability Services, and the Double H Hole In The Woods Ranch, among others.<\/p>\n

Kelly is senior vice president and director of research for IBM. He directs IBM’s worldwide technology research and a team of over 3,000 scientists and technologists at 10 laboratories in 10 countries, helps guide IBM’s overall technology strategy and heads IBM’s global intellectual property initiatives. He joined IBM in 1980, and has held numerous technical and general management posts, including key leadership roles in IBM’s semiconductor, microelectronics and storage businesses.<\/p>\n

Kelly received a B.S. in physics from Union College, a master’s degree in physics from RPI and his doctorate degree in materials engineering from RPI. He is the chairman of the board of governors of the IBM Academy of Technology; a board member and former chairman of the Semiconductor Industry Association; a Fellow of the IEEE and a trustee on the boards of both Union College and RPI.<\/p>\n

He has received numerous technology and business leadership awards, including the Semiconductor Industry’s highest honor, the Robert E. Noyce Award, and IEEE’s top R&D Management award, the Frederik Philips Award.<\/p>\n

The Fund for Lake George is a not-for-profit, privately funded organization dedicated to the protection of Lake George. Formed in 1980, it applies a science-based approach to protection focused on Lake George water quality and the overall health of the Lake George watershed. It pursues this mission through long-term scientific research, direct advocacy, and strategic partnerships with diverse public and private interests.
