The 50th anniversary gala of the Warren Washington ARC, held at the Sagamore Resort in Bolton Landing in November, raised more than $10,000 for the organization, according to ARC officials.<\/p>\n

The ARC is the local nonprofit agency serving over 300 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout Warren and Washington counties.<\/p>\n

The event also included the presentation of the agency’s first-ever Respectful Commitment Award in recognition of outstanding accomplishments and contributions to the disabilities community across the country.<\/p>\n

WWARC Executive Director John Von Ahn presented the award to Alex Sessions.<\/p>\n

Sessions was born with Down Syndrome and is the son of U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions of Texas. His accomplishments include winning several Special Olympic Gold Medals, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout and being recognized as the 2011 Global Down Syndrome Ambassador.<\/p>\n

The gala began with a cocktail reception presented by The Hart Agency. Distributors were on hand to offer tastings of various wine and spirit selections while guests perused a large selection of silent auction items. Master of ceremonies Bobby Dick welcomed guests to the event during a three course dinner presented by The Sagamore.<\/p>\n

Following dinner, guests sampled dessert selections during the gala’s chocolate competition and voted for their favorite. Chef Yono Purnomo, owner and operator of Yono’s in Albany, presented the award of Best Chocolate Confection to The Chocolate Mill for its dark chocolate whiskey cremeaux on crispy hazelnut dacquoise creation.<\/p>\n

Other chocolate competitors were Barkeater Chocolates, Stomach Cakes and The Sagamore Resort.<\/p>\n

The event’s live auction featured items including a week at a lakeside cabin, a autographed sneaker and book from former Glens Falls High basketball star, now NBA player Jimmer Fredette, and a golf and dining experience at Saratoga National Golf Club.<\/p>\n

The auction also offered a raffle opportunity for two tickets to the 2013 PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester. The winner will receive two tickets to the PGA event, two nights lodging, catered lunches and dinners and shuttle service to and from the hotel. WWARC will continue to sell up to 200 raffle tickets to the public for $50 per ticket. The winner will be drawn on June 24.<\/p>\n

Funds raised from the gala support WWARC’s efforts to provide outstanding residential services, day programs and family support services, such as the new Respite Center. The agency is a chapter of NYSARC Inc., America’s largest non-profit organization supporting people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities and their families since 1949.<\/p>\n
