The refurbished and revitalized downtown shopping and dining area that surrounds the Centennial Circle is about to become a scene of holiday festivities, crafts, and holiday shopping.<br \/>\nIn conjunction with the Glens Falls Business Improvement District (BID), people coming to Glens Falls to shop, eat, and enjoy the historic architecture and eclectic collection of businesses will have their pick of activities and events to get them into the holiday spirit. Dan Burke, regional president of NBT Bank and chairman of the board of BID since its inception in 2005, is optimistic about the positive momentum and the steady influx of new businesses to the downtown area.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re making a nice progression forward and upward,&#8221; he said, adding that BID is working in conjunction with the mayor to develop a strategic plan to increase the vibrancy of Glens Falls. In the meanwhile, there is plenty to do in and around town for the upcoming holiday season.<\/p>\n<p>Hometown Holidays in Glens Falls officially kicks off on Nov. 23 and runs through Dec. 1. The North Country Festival of Trees at the Queensbury Hotel on Ridge Street will also transform the surrounding environs into a holiday wonderland, with gingerbread houses, and crafts from local artisans. Activities include a luncheon for seniors, and a Sugar Plum Dance for kids.<\/p>\n<p>Shoppers looking for unique gifts can pick from the eclectic assortment of Adirondack clothing, accessories, and memorabilia at Nine, one of the newer shops located on Glen Street. Downtown Charm, at a new location on Glen Street, has a collection of re-furbished vintage furniture. Across the circle, Fountain Square Outfitters carries a full inventory of Patagonia and other North Country appropriate clothing, footwear, and accessories.<\/p>\n<p>Down the street, Sterling &amp; Company&#8217;s distinctive interior, complete with tin ceiling, authentic exposed brick, and wide plank floors, compliments a collection of distinctive gifts and home furnishings.<\/p>\n<p>On the corner, Scoville Jewelers is an anchor on the street. Doing business in Glens Falls since 1952, its owner, Chris Scoville, is chairman of the BID&#8217;s Downtown Events committee, which has several planned shopping events and contests, including the inaugural Scoville Jewelers gingerbread creation contest. Entrants can sign up to win $1,000.<\/p>\n<p>Food and libation are always near at hand, with options ranging from margaritas and southwestern fare at Raul&#8217;s Mexican Caf\u00c3\u00a9, to chocolates, pastries, and breakfast and luncheon entrees at The Chocolate Mill. Owned by certified master pastry chef, Frank Vollkommer, The Chocolate Mill offers an inviting atmosphere to enjoy a cup of organic tea or proprietary roasted coffee blends.<\/p>\n<p>Davidson Brothers Brewing Company has samples of its home-brewed craft beers and ales. Across the street is the Charles R.
