Northeast Electronics Recycler (NER), of 180 Maple Street Glens Falls, captured more than 125 tons (253,000 lbs) electronic waste (e-waste) from the local waste stream in its first year of operation. The electronics include televisions, computers, audio equipment and related items.<\/p>\n
“The response to our service over the past year has been tremendous,” according to owner John Reilly. “Larger employers have had access to e-waste recycling for some time, due to their size. However, small to medium size operations as well as individual residents in the area have had to absorb considerable cost to act responsibly, until now. NER fills that small to medium size need within our community,” he continued.<\/p>\n
\nBetween May 2011 and May 2012, through relationships with local municipal governments, NER established collection sites at local transfer stations to enable area residents convenient access to e-waste recycling.\n<\/div>\n
Recycling with NER is available at Queensbury, Moreau, Warrensburg, Bolton and Horicon Transfer Stations. NER also provides direct pickup service as well as secure hard-drive destruction for business owners in the region.<\/p>\n
NER recycles 99% of the material collected, preventing the harmful components from reaching our air, soil and ground water. Harmful components include Lead, Mercury, Arsenic, Barium, Cadmium and Polybrominated Biphenyls, which pose serious health risks to individuals and the environment.<\/p>\n
