It&#8217;s had the usual arcade assortment of pinball, air hockey, SkeeBall, video, and shooting games, but Coon wanted something different.<\/p>\n<div>\nIf you have seen the movies &#8220;Mission Impossible,&#8221; &#8220;Ocean&#8217;s Eleven,&#8221; or &#8220;Entrapment,&#8221; and watched thieves figuring out ways to outsmart security systems that include mazes of laser beams, you have some idea of what Fun World&#8217;s latest attraction, &#8220;The Vault Laser Maze Challenge,&#8221; is like.\n<\/div>\n<div>\nCoon put some time and travel into investigating what laser maze games were available. He found mazes that were contained in rectangular boxes so that once a player had manipulated his or her way from one end of the box to the other, returning to the starting spot to exit only involved reversing what had been done to reach the far end in the first place. Ultimately he discovered a Colorado-based game development company called Funovation, that had a design for a U-shaped vault so that players never retraced their steps. There is no video maze with a similar design north of Albany.\n<\/div>\n<div>\nAdditionally, mazes can be set for four different levels of complexity. The two top levels involve moving lasers (called Oculas, a Funovation exclusive), one in Level 3 and two in Level 4, that move more than those in the previous level.\n<\/div>\n<div>\nPlayers enter The Vault singly or in a two-person team. Lasers are made visible by a hazer machine. Attempting to cross as few lasers as possible, they strive to reach a flashing light to push a button activating the next section of the maze. Crossing a laser results in an alarm sounding. There are extra lights for the two-person teams with buttons to be pushed simultaneously.\n<\/div>\n<div>\nPeople waiting on the outside of The Vault can view the action inside on a live video feed and watch a scoreboard tracking players&#8217; progress. Individuals or teams completing the maze with scores in the top 10 for that level will have their names displayed and win a prize.\n<\/div>\n<p>Think you can master Level 4 and have your name on the scoreboard all summer? Think again. Coon has the capacity to add or remove lasers or change patterns.<\/p>\n<p>Coon gives credit to Munter Enterprises of Saratoga for construction of The Vault within Fun World Arcade. Warren De Kleine of Diamond Point has been the electrician involved in the assembly. Marissa Muratori gets credit for painting the inside of The Vault to give it a more authentic appearance.<\/p>\n<p>Coon describes The Vault as &#8220;an interactive, fun thing.&#8221; He notes that it&#8217;s safe and that it involves no images of shooting or killing, just everyone together having a good time. He&#8217;s even seen parent-and-kid teams in locations that he observed.<\/p>\n<p>The cost for running The Vault&#8217;s mazes is $3 for a single play, $5 for two rounds, $8 for three, or $12 for five.<\/p>\n<p>Fun World Arcade opens April 6 from 11am-10pm.
