NYSARC Inc., the nonprofit group providing services to over 60,000 individuals with developmental and other intellectual disabilities in New York state, recently finalized the merger of its Warren & Washington and Albany Counties chapters.

The combined entity will now be known as the Warren, Washington and Albany Counties Chapter of NYSARC, Inc. as well as WWAARC. Marc Brandt, executive director of NYSARC Inc., said it was one of the smoothest consolidations in NYSARC’s 64-year history.

The Warren & Washington Counties chapter and the Albany County chapter have been working collaboratively on the merger over the past year.

The consolidated governing board will continue to be family led, with members retained from both pre-merger boards, officials said. John Von Ahn, executive Director, from the Warren & Washington Counties ARC will lead WWAARC.

The consolidation makes WWAARC one of the top employers in the region, with almost 1,000 employees serving over 900 people and their families in 92 locations, according to NYSARC.

“This is a tremendous opportunity to create an entity that delivers high quality services while achieving some economies of scale administratively. The efficiencies realized have already helped us expand services to people with developmental and other intellectual disabilities and their families in all three counties,” said Von Ahn.

WWAARC will continue to offer its traditional service mix of residential, day habilitation, Medicaid service coordination, family support services and community employment. “We are fortunate to have this opportunity to proactively engage when so many uncertainties lie ahead in our field. Our combined dedicated team ensures our commitment to fulfill our mission of providing services, advocacy and opportunity to individuals with disabilities and their families,” Von Ahn said.

Dan Murray, CEO of the Albany County location said the merger “will not only strengthen our programs but will also have a tremendous economic impact in the Capital City. A number of our programs support and create employment opportunities for people with disabilities every day. This benefits not only the people we support but also the private and public sector.”

WWAARC Foundation Board President, Dr. Judith Ann Mysliborski said she is excited about the merger as they continue to grow their philanthropic and fundraising activities.

“The merger will expand our grant support to fund more programs and services to directly improve the lives of the people that WWAARC supports. We do this proudly while enhancing WWAARC’s mission to enable individuals to realize their fullest potential in their homes, their workplaces and the community,” Mysliborski said.

Board President, Anne Marie Lockhart said WWAARC “is honored to connect so many special people with opportunities which exemplifies the respectful commitment that our employees have for those we serve, their families and those who support us in carrying out our mission. There are great things ahead for WWAARC.”

NYSARC has 54 chapters and provides services in every county in the state. It supports over 60,000 individuals, employs 30,000, and has a membership of more than 100,000. ARC’s across the state collectively touch the lives of over one million New Yorkers including the families of those we serve and our dedicated employees, officials said.
