The Crandall Public Library received two grants to support its Film & Video Festival.
\nNew York state has awarded the library a $17,003 regional economic development grant to fund the conversion to a digital film projector, which will allow Crandall to continue offering films through its Film & Video Festival.<\/p>\n

Movie distributors are transitioning to a digital format for new releases, necessitating a switch to digital film projectors by all movie theaters wishing to project current popular, independent, and\/or documentary films.<\/p>\n

For more than 30 years, Crandall Public Library has provided the community an affordable theater experience through its Film & Video Festival, which currently uses a 35 mm projector. The program has continually been one of the library’s best attended and highly regarded, with a substantial portion of its annual expenses funded by grants from the state Council on the Arts and business sponsors.
\nThe total cost for the digital conversion is $34,006. The grant requires the library provide one-to-one dollar match, which will be paid from a capital reserves fund.<\/p>\n

Crandall Public Library has also received a $19,000 grant from the state Council on the Arts Electronic Media & Film Program for the 2014 Film & Video Festival. The long-standing program offers a weekly series in the spring and fall with about two dozen films shown in total, each with two screening times, as well as the African American Film Forum and Black Maria Film & Video Festival.<\/p>\n

Films are projected on the theater-sized screen in the Christine L. McDonald Community Room with a state-of-the-art sound system. The council’s ongoing annual support has been instrumental to Crandall’s development of a quality film program that has provided the greater Glens Falls community with free access to films they might not otherwise have seen.<\/p>\n
