The Lake George Land Conservancy (LGLC) is helping to promote Lake George’s status as a national heritage area by providing coordination of stakeholders within Warren County.<\/p>\n
In November 2006, the communities around Lake George, as well as those along Lake Champlain, the Champlain Canal and the upper reaches of the Hudson River, were designated as a national heritage area by the United States Congress. Named the Champlain Valley National Heritage Partnership (CVNHP), this designation allows the Lake Champlain Basin Program (LCBP) to provide financial and professional support to communities, museums and organizations that work to interpret and promote our region’s history and culture.<\/p>\n
To help manage the region, the Lake Champlain Basin Program (LCBP) enlists the help of advisory committees and regional stakeholder groups that meet regularly to help identify community and county-level actions, clarify regional needs, and provide information on upcoming initiatives.<\/p>\n
LGLC will act as administrator for the Warren County Regional Stakeholders Group coordinator. This coordinator, funded by a grant from the CVNHP and LCBP, will enlist the participation of potential stakeholders, organize meetings and facilitate the collaborative stakeholder efforts to develop new and enhanced programs, signage and events promoting the Lake George region’s history and culture.<\/p>\n
“The potential of such a group is enormous,” said LGLC Communications and Outreach Manager Sarah Hoffman. “We’re pleased to be part of this opportunity to develop new signage and other education and conservation programs highlighting the area’s rich history and its connection with the land.”<\/p>\n
The CVNHP has provided grant support for more than 40 projects since 2008. Projects like festivals for the Quadricentennial, interpretive signage and guides, academic conferences, and special projects.<\/p>\n
LGLC welcomes applications from anyone interested in filling this one-year coordinator position. Interested parties should submit their letter of interest to Cornelia Wells, cwells@lglc.org.
