Officials of SUNY Adirondack and Paul Smith’s
\nCollege signed a dual admissions agreement on
\nAug. 5 that will make it easier for area students
\nto seek bachelor’s degrees in hospitality and
\nrecreation studies, officials said.<\/p>\n
The new agreement was signed by SUNY
\nAdirondack President Dr. Kristine Duffy and Paul
\nSmith’s College President Dr. John Mills during a
\nspecial reception at SUNY Adirondack’s Culinary
\nArts Center in Queensbury.<\/p>\n
Under the new arrangement, students accepted
\nto SUNY Adirondack would be automatically
\neligible to complete bachelor of science degrees
\nthrough Paul Smith’s in either hotel, resort and
\ntourism management or recreation, adventure
\neducation and leisure management.
\n“Developing partnerships like this makes all
\nof our communities stronger,” said Dr. Duffy to a
\nlarge group made up of college officials, members
\nof the Adirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce and local business members.
\nOfficials said the partnership will bolster SUNY
\nAdirondack’s growing hospitality and adventure
\nsports programs, which have offered both professional
\ncertificates and two-year degrees in
\nthe past.<\/p>\n
Another key feature of the dual admission
\noption is that students who could not initially
\nafford tuition to Paul Smith’s can complete the
\nfirst half of a degree at a reduced cost through
\nSUNY Adirondack. Students can complete their
\ndegree of choice in as little as two-and-a-half
\nyears through the Accelerated Career Education
\nprogram.<\/p>\n
“The goal is what we all want: more students
\nfrom this area to be qualified to enter the regional
\nworkforce,” said Dr. Mills.<\/p>\n
SUNY Adirondack serves students via its credit
\nand Continuing Education programs. It has locations
