The Garrison, a long-time haunt for Lake
\nGeorge locals, has re-opened. The local eatery,
\nclosed in 2012, was purchased by Beach
\nRoad Properties LLC in December of last
\nyear and underwent extensive renovations.<\/p>\n

The restaurant at 220 Beach Road, Lake
\nGeorge, officially opened with little fanfare.
\n“We didn’t advertise or anything,” said general
\nmanager Mark French. “We had a soft
\nopening the night before for the people who
\nhelped in the renovation. There were 100
\npeople that sat down and ordered. It was a
\n‘stress test’ on the place.”<\/p>\n

The menu, though revitalized, is not much
\nchanged from what it was before the sale and
\nrenovation. There are still the same sweet
\npotato fries customers came to know and
\nthe same pub fare.
\n“We tried to keep it somewhat similar,”
\nsaid French. “A lot of burgers, fish and chips,
\nseven different salads.”<\/p>\n

Burger names such as Prospect Mountain,
\nBuck Mountain, and Log Jam give a
\nlocal flare to the selections, as do the Koom
\nSandwich, and the Great Camp BLT. There’s
\nalso the Adirondack Lumber jack, a double
\nburger with smoked bacon, pepperjack
\ncheese, lettuce, tomato and onion with a
\ngarlic and herb aioli.<\/p>\n

Sandwiches include the Calves Pen, a
\ntoasted hoagie with warm roast beef, sauteed
\nonions and mushrooms, and horseradish dill
\ncream, topped with melted provolone cheese.
\nWraps include the Asparagian, which
\nhas grilled asparagus and spinach, roasted
\nred peppers, ham, Swiss cheese and honey
\nmustard dressing.<\/p>\n

New to the restaurant is the extensive
\noutdoor seating that includes room for 30
\npeople at four tables, plus three high-tops.<\/p>\n

The Garrison will be open year-round
\nand while the patio may not always be comfortable
\nfor enjoying a meal, there is some
\nconsideration into making the outdoor area
\na welcome place in all seasons.
\n“We might get a fireplace for the deck,”
\nsaid French.<\/p>\n

The restaurant is still family friendly with
\na kid’s menu and an art station to help keep
\nchildren busy while waiting for food.
\n“The kids love the chalk boards,” French
\nsaid. “They can just run up and draw on
\nthem,”<\/p>\n

While the restaurant boasts new owners
\nand a new look, the old sign still hangs by the
\nroad. “We can’t change the sign,” said French.
\n“You can’t really because you’ll be changing
\nthe look and that requires a long process. So
\nwe just resurfaced it and painted it.”<\/p>\n

“A lot of people that used to come here are
\ncoming back,” said French. “Hopefully, we’ll
\nkeep all the locals coming back.”<\/p>\n

Live music is planned for the winter season.<\/p>\n
