The Southern Adirondack Fiber Festival
\ncelebrates its sixth year of keeping fiber
\narts and natural fiber production in the
\nSouthern Adirondack region alive and well.<\/p>\n
Each year producers, craftsmen and artist
\ngather to display and sell their wares.
\nDemonstrating their skills, they educate
\nthe public about natural fibers and their
\nimportance to our community. The Southern
\nAdirondack Region is ranked as one
\nof the top natural animal fiber producing
\nareas in the nation.<\/p>\n
This year’s festival, on Sept. 27 and 28,
\noffers the more than 4,000 attendees a
\nvariety of products made in the southern
\nAdirondack region.
\nThe festival is held at the Washington
\nCounty Fairgrounds on Route 29 in Greenwich.
\nClasses and workshops in felting, weaving,
\ndying and knitting are offered during
\nthe two-day event. Registration for participation
\nin classes and workshop can be
\nfound on-line at www.adkfiber.com.<\/p>\n
Organizers said there will be plenty of
\nfiber producing animals at the festival,
\nincluding sheep, goats, llamas, alpacas
\nand angora rabbit. Sheep herding, duck
\nherding and sheep shearing demos are
\nscheduled throughout both days. For the
\nkids, Puddles the Clown will be at the festival
\nfor facepainting, and The Widgets and
\nKangarooster will be performing.<\/p>\n
Vendors are located indoors so the festival
\nruns rain or shine. Admission is $5
\nfor adults, children 13 and under are free.
\nThis year’s festival is sponsored in part
\nby Washington County Fair, Sutherland’s
\nPetworks, the Times Union, Battenkill
\nFibers Carding and Spinning Mill and The
\nYarn Shop at Foster Sheep Farm.<\/p>\n
