Through a federal EPA grant, a no-cost job
\ntraining program will be offered in the late
\nfall for the unemployed in the greater Glens
\nFalls region.<\/p>\n
Ed Bartholomew, president of EDC of Warren
\nCounty, said the environmental training
\nprogram “will consist of approximately an
\neight-week course which will focus on training
\nin a variety of environmental employment
\nareas including: asbestos removal technician,
\nhazardous waste management, facility maintenance,
\nindustrial cleaning , forklift operator,
\nsafety technician and many others.”<\/p>\n
The program was put together via a partnership
\namong the EDC of Warren County, the city
\nof Glens Falls, the state Department of Labor,
\nWarren County and Local 773 Plumbers and
\nSteamfitters union.
\nAccording to Bartholomew, the job training program is being offered to currently unemployed
\nindividuals. Up to 25 applicants will be
\nselected for the first round of the grant to enroll
\nin this program.<\/p>\n
To better inform potential candidates
\nabout this program, there will be an orientation
\nsession at the Warren County One Stop
\nCareer Center located in the Northway Plaza,
\nQueensbury, 2-3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16.<\/p>\n
The training program that will commence
\nin November will be conducted at the newly
\nopened $5.5 million Local 773 Plumbers and
\nSteamfitters Regional Job Training Center at
\nTech Meadows (Luzerne and Veterans Road)
\nin Queensbury.<\/p>\n
Bartholomew thanked the efforts of U.S.
\nSen. Charles Schumer for his support and
\nadvocacy for this grant application and grant
