Lake George has a new fun and entertainment
\ncenter for the whole family. While bowling
\nhas always been a family-friendly pastime,
\nthe new Lake George Lanes and Games center
\noffers an expanded wealth of entertainment
\nand activity.<\/p>\n

The property, formerly Spare Time Family
\nFun Center run by Bowl New England, was
\npurchased by the family-partners David Kenny
\nSr., David Kenny Jr. and Laura Kohl.<\/p>\n

“We are all equal partners,” said David
\nKenny Jr.
\n“We’re all members of the LLC,” Kohl said. “David Sr. was really responsible for all the
\nconstruction. David Jr. was responsible for
\ndeveloping the programs and games and getting
\nthe operations set up, and I’m in charge of the
\nadministrative and financial functions. We are
\nall in it together.”
\nTogether they have envisioned a place that
\ncan be more than just a bowling alley, more
\nthan just a place for games. Their vision is really
\nabout community and connection.<\/p>\n

The renovated facility includes 24 lanes for
\nbowling, the multi-level Adirondack-themed
\nlaser tag arena and a two-level playground
\nstructure suitable for all ages.
\n“It appeals to the six-year old set,” said Kohl,
\n“but it’s fun for most but any age.”<\/p>\n

Of special interest, said Kohl, is the redemption
\narcade which is outfitted with brand new
\ngames and a high-tech ticket system.
\n“You earn points to redeem for prizes like
\nany other arcade,” said Kohl, but “ours is different
\nfrom any arcade in the area. We have a
\ncutting-edge state-of-the-art technology. That
\nis, the we load a card with credit to play games
\nand anything you win goes right onto the card.”<\/p>\n

“The big thing is we are open for the community,
\nthis is a year-round place to go,” said David Jr.
\n“We are starting to book different kinds of
\nholiday parties for staff, extended staff and
\nemployees, ” said Kohl. “And they are reasonably
\npriced. There are lots of opportunities for
\ncorporates to come in and have a lot of different
\nactivities.<\/p>\n

“It’s not just birthday parties and corporate
\nevents but we help groups host these things
\nthat really benefits the community,” she said.
\nFor instance, the Lake George High School
\nJr. Honor Society held an evening event and
\nwith an agreement for 50-50 profit split, said
\nKohl.<\/p>\n

With the advent of year-round activities,
\nLake George Lanes and Games is also offering
\nexpanded employment opportunities.
\n“We are always looking for good year-round
\nhelp,” said Kohl. “We will be hiring a second
\nbirthday party coordinator in the very near
\nfuture.”<\/p>\n

As for summer season events, she encouraged
\ninterested parties to apply by the end of
\nApril and first week in May.
\n“We really are really busy already,” said David
\nJr. “We have a function soon for 100-125 people.
\nWe are renting out the whole place.”<\/p>\n

He said that the facility is designed to accommodate
\nevents of both modest size and for
\nentire company outings.
\n“We can do 10-person functions or a small
\ngroup of team members and bigger functions,” he said. “We can cater from anything to a small
\nputting or a bigger group thing. The laser tag is
\na great corporate team building activity.”<\/p>\n

He is promoting laser tag as a way to improve
\ncorporate relations. According to his research,
\nbusinesses who used laser tag in the morning
\nhad far more effective planning meetings
\nlater on.
\n“I am excited,” he said. “I think it’s going to
\nbe a great facility … a good place for the community
\nto gather,” he said. “We tried to do it right
\nand not cut corners. It is a really good place.”<\/p>\n

The new system eliminates the need for
\nkeeping track of cash and tokens to play games
\nas well as the long strands of tickets. “And even
\nbetter, we log the players’ name and points.
\nSo even if they lose the card, we can still find
\nthe information in the computer and they still
\nhave it.<\/p>\n

The only part of the facility that is not up
\nand running is the eatery which is still in the
\nplanning stages as a sports-themed restaurant.
\n“Our friends at the Inn at Erlowest have
\nhelped us with the menu and with recipes,”
\nsaid Kohl. “The head chef came down here and
\nhelped us reinvent the menu and now we have
\nfour different kinds of wings.”<\/p>\n

The facility is wheelchair accessible. Winter
\nhours are Sunday through Thursday 10 a.m. to
\n10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1
\na.m. (for Galactic Bowl). For more information
