{"id":16057,"date":"2014-12-16T12:15:13","date_gmt":"2014-12-16T17:15:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.glensfalls.com\/glensfallsbusinessjournal\/2014\/12\/six-flags-great-escape-staff-partners-with-hospital-to-refurbish-amandas-house.html"},"modified":"2014-12-16T12:15:13","modified_gmt":"2014-12-16T17:15:13","slug":"six-flags-great-escape-staff-partners-with-hospital-to-refurbish-amandas-house","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.glensfalls.com\/glensfallsbusinessjournal\/2014\/12\/six-flags-great-escape-staff-partners-with-hospital-to-refurbish-amandas-house\/","title":{"rendered":"Six Flags Great Escape Staff Partners With Hospital To Refurbish Amanda&#8217;s House"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"img-left\">\n<div>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"amanda's house vc.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.glensfalls.com\/glensfallsbusinessjournal\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/109\/2014\/12\/amanda27s20house20vc.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" height=\"228\" width=\"150\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"img-caption\">Amanda&#8217;s House was refurbished with help from the staff at Six Flags Great Escape\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Nearly 75 team members from Six Flags<br \/>\nGreat Escape took part in the sixth annual<br \/>\nProject 6 Day of Service.<br \/>\nThis year, the team partnered with Glens<br \/>\nFalls Hospital to help renovate Amanda&#8217;s House.<\/p>\n<p>Amanda&#8217;s House, at 22 Henry St., Glens Falls,<br \/>\nis a hospitality home for Glens Falls Hospital<br \/>\npatients traveling a long distance for treatments<br \/>\nand for families coming to visit loved ones who<br \/>\nare hospitalized.<\/p>\n<p>Amanda&#8217;s House is free for its visitors and is<br \/>\nsupported through community donations.<br \/>\nThe house was established in memory of<br \/>\nAmanda Rose Cafaro, who passed away from<br \/>\nacute myelogenous leukemia. During her<br \/>\nstruggle, the communities in the greater Glens<br \/>\nFalls area rallied to the aid of Amanda and her<br \/>\nfamily.<br \/>\n&#8220;Amanda&#8217;s House has become part of the<br \/>\nGlens Falls Hospital organization to provide<br \/>\nbetter coordinated care for the patients and<br \/>\nfamilies we serve,&#8221; said Dianne Shugrue, Glens<br \/>\nFalls Hospital president and CEO. &#8220;The house<br \/>\nwill reopen in early 2015 thanks, in part, to the<br \/>\nassistance of Six Flags Great Escape volunteers.<br \/>\nThe project will greatly benefit the patients and<br \/>\nfamilies who stay here each year.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Tasks for the volunteers included installing a<br \/>\nnew heating system, painting the entire house,<br \/>\nremoval of brush and debris from around the<br \/>\nbuilding to improve aesthetics and accessibility,<br \/>\nand repairing\/replacing portions of the roof.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Amanda&#8217;s House, a portion of Six Flags volunteers worked at Boy Scout Camp<br \/>\nWakpominee in Fort Ann, helping with clean up<br \/>\nand winterizing.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past five years the Six Flags Great<br \/>\nEscape Theme Park and Lodge have participated<br \/>\nin a number of local projects benefiting<br \/>\norganizations dedicated to the needs of children<br \/>\nand families, public welfare and environmental<br \/>\nissues.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> Amanda&#8217;s House was refurbished with help from the staff at Six Flags Great Escape Nearly 75 team members from Six Flags Great Escape took part in the sixth annual Project 6 Day of Service.
