The Hyde Museum, 161 Warren St. in
\nGlens Falls, announced eight exhibits it has
\nplanned for this year.<\/p>\n
Alice Grether, director of communications
\nand visitor services, also announced new
\nadmission rates for 2015. General admission
\nwill be $15 and seniors (60-plus) will
\npay $13. There is free admission for Hyde
\nmembers, children 12 and under and students
\nwith the proper ID. Also for active duty
\nU.S. military and their families. Admission
\nis also free on the second Sunday of each
\nmonth, year round.<\/p>\n
Hours remain the same, Tuesday – Saturday,
\n10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sundays noon to 5
\np.m.; and closed Mondays and most national
\nholidays.
\nThe first of the new exhibits is “The
\nStone Palette: Lithographs in 19th-Century
\nFrance,” currently in display and running
\nthrough March 15. There will be 31 prints
\nfrom The Hyde’s Tobin Sparling Family Collection
\nexploring lithography as a creative
\nmedium in 19th-Century France. It is a virtual
\nsurvey of many of the important French
\nartists who found a new level of creative
\nfreedom by creating lithographic prints.<\/p>\n
“Wild Nature: Masterworks from the
\nAdirondack Museum runs Jan. 18 to April 12.
\nIt is comprised of 62 masterworks revealing
\nhow images of the Adirondack landscape
\nshaped America’s perception of the wilderness
\nand how, in turn, created wilderness
\nas a national icon. Works include paintings
\nand rarely-exhibited photographs and prints
\ndating from the 19th to the early 21st century.<\/p>\n
“CLICK! Selections of Work from the
\nGeorge Stephanopoulos Collection” runs
\nMarch 21 to May 31. It features 13 artists
\nrepresenting a wide range of artistic expression
\nand subject matter. The collection was
\nacquired by The Hyde in 2014 and is the first
\ntime these images will be shown to the public in a gallery setting.<\/p>\n
The annual Juried High School Show will
\nrun April 25 to May 31. It features works
\nfrom competing area students who hail from
\nWarren, Washington, Saratoga, Hamilton,
\nand Essex counties. Works are reviewed
\nand selected by a jury composed of local art
\nprofessionals.<\/p>\n
“The Late Drawing of Andy Warhol: 1973
\n-1987” is set for June 21 to Sept. 2. This
\nexhibition, organized by The Andy Warhol
\nMuseum, one of the four Carnegie Museums
\nof Pittsburgh, offers 50 works created during
\none of the most prolific periods of his life.
\nMany of the drawings in this exhibition are
\non view to the public for the first time.<\/p>\n
“Homer’s America” runs June 21 to Sept.
\n13. From The Hyde’s permanent collection,
\nit is a selection of approximately two dozen
\nworks, including engravings, etchings, and
\npaintings that focus on the artist’s chronicling
\nof American life.<\/p>\n
“Audrey Flack: Transformed Drawings”
\nis set for Sept. 26 -to Jan. 3, 2016. Flack,
\na pioneer in Photorealism, is a nationally
\nrecognized painter, printmaker, and sculptor.
\nThe subjects of her hyper-real canvases often
\nhighlight women neglected or demonized by
\nhistory.<\/p>\n
“Pulled, Pressed and Screened: Important
\nAmerican Prints” will run Oct. 11 to Jan. 10,
\n2016. This exhibition of 50 American prints
\nsurveys the activities of artists who put their
\ndesigns on paper during this exciting period
\nbetween 1930 and 1980 Thomas Hart Benton,
\nGrant Wood, Anne Ryan, Milton Avery,
\nDorothy Dehner, Robert Motherwell, Andy
\nWarhol, Jasper Johns, and Richard Estes are
\na few of the artists represented in this exhibition,
\norganized by the Syracuse University
\nArt Collection.<\/p>\n
