The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation
\nannounced that the Adirondack
\nRegional Chamber of Commerce has been
\nhonored by Hiring Our Heroes with the
\nChamber of Valor award.<\/p>\n

The Chamber of Valor acknowledges the
\ncontributions of local chambers, industry
\nassociations, and business development organizations
\nthat join the Hiring Our Heroes
\nmission of finding meaningful employment
\nfor veterans, transitioning service members,
\nand military spouses.<\/p>\n

“We would never be able to do the work
\nwe do without the tremendous support of
\nlocal chambers and the Adirondack Regional
\nChamber of Commerce is setting a
\nstandard for other chambers to follow,” said
\nEric Eversole, executive director of Hiring
\nOur Heroes and vice president at the U.S.
\nChamber.
\n“The Adirondack Regional Chamber has
\nbeen instrumental in educating and influencing
\nemployers about the great value
\nveterans and military spouses bring to the
\nworkforce.”<\/p>\n

Chamber of Valor award recipients submitted
\napplications to the U.S. Chamber of
\nCommerce Foundation to be considered for
\nthe award. Applications were scored by U.S.
\nChamber of Commerce Foundation staff and
\nhonorees were awarded at the one-, two-,
\nand three-star levels. The Adirondack Regional
\nChamber of Commerce is a three-star
\nChamber of Valor award recipient.<\/p>\n

“For the past 100 years, our Chamber
\nhas been engaged with veteran initiatives
\nin various ways, and being recognized as a
\nChamber of Valor by the U.S. Chamber is a
\ngreat honor,” said Peter Aust, president and
\nCEO of ARCC. “We will continue to focus
\non ensuring our local veterans are provided
\nskill development resources, special
\nrecognition by businesses and first-rate job
\nopportunities.”<\/p>\n

Hiring Our Heroes launched in March
\n2011 as a nationwide initiative to help veterans,
\ntransitioning service members, and
\nmilitary spouses find meaningful employment. The organization said that to date,
\nmore than 1,500 companies have hired over
\n25,000 veterans and military spouses as a
\nresult of more than 810 hiring fairs.<\/p>\n

In March 2012, the U.S. Chamber and
\nCapital One launched Hiring 500,000 Heroes,
\na national campaign to engage the
\nbusiness community in committing to hire
\nhalf a million veterans and military spouses
\nby the end of 2014. The U.S. Chamber said
\nthat thus far, more than 1,700 businesses of
\nall sizes have pledged to hire 474,000 heroes
\ntoward this goal. To date, 285,000 hires have
\nbeen confirmed.<\/p>\n

On top of being part of the Hiring Our
\nHeroes program, ARCC also supports local
\nveterans by partnering with the Return
\nthe Favor program. This program offers
\ndiscounts to veterans at participating businesses.<\/p>\n

The Chamber has been a partner in this
\nprogram for a number of years and offers
\ndiscounted membership dues for veteran
\nowned business in our region. Recently the
\nChamber strengthened the partnership by
\ncross promoting the efforts on their website
\n(www.adirondackchamber.org) and
\ncreating a “Veteran Friendly” button so that
\ninformation can be easily accessible.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
