We here at the<br \/>\nLake George Chamber believe it will be<br \/>\nanother good one.<\/p>\n<p>I read an article the other day where<br \/>\nLake George Village Mayor Bob Blais said,<br \/>\n&#8220;We don&#8217;t use those (parking meter figures)<br \/>\nas a barometer of a good or bad season &#8211; we<br \/>\nuse the flow of water consumption &#8211; but if<br \/>\nthe meters are at what they were last year,<br \/>\nthat&#8217;s a good sign.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Well, I guess we had a pretty good 2014 as<br \/>\nparking meter revenues on the side streets<br \/>\nwere up, which indicates that main street<br \/>\nand parking lots were full, thus a bustling<br \/>\nseason. Let&#8217;s hope more coins are collected<br \/>\nin 2015.<br \/>\nWhile optimism abounds, what I truly see<br \/>\ntaking place this year is more of a catalyst for future years. This coming spring, work<br \/>\nwill begin on the Route 9 Corridor Project<br \/>\nthat will transform the road (Route 9)<br \/>\nfrom Exit 21 to West Brook Road leading<br \/>\ninto the village. This project aims to bring<br \/>\na &#8220;complete streets&#8221; plan to this busy corridor,<br \/>\nthus giving our thousands of visitors<br \/>\na &#8220;sense of arrival&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Land has been cleared and sometime this<br \/>\nspring construction will begin on the new<br \/>\nMarriott Hotel project, along with renovation<br \/>\nof the Surfside on the Lake.<\/p>\n<p>These projects and the current expansion<br \/>\nof the Adirondack Pub &amp; Brewery, the<br \/>\nLake George Lanes &amp; Games, and the much<br \/>\ntalked about zip line at the Wild West Ranch<br \/>\nare just a few of the privately owned businesses<br \/>\nthat truly have a vision for growth<br \/>\nand improvement. Add to these, the newly<br \/>\nconstructed shops and annexes at the Outlet<br \/>\nCenters and you can see that the future<br \/>\nis bright for us here in the Adirondacks.<\/p>\n<p>A few other shining stars that have or<br \/>\nwill be dotting the landscape are the Beach<br \/>\nRoad renovations and the Million Dollar<br \/>\nBeach parking lot (currently in construction).<\/p>\n<p>Motorists, pedestrians and cyclists<br \/>\nwill enjoy a much-improved road at the<br \/>\nsouthern end of the lake with wonderful<br \/>\naccess to the soon to-be-completed Festival<br \/>\nSpace and Environmental Park, both part<br \/>\nof the Charles R. Wood Park. It includes a<br \/>\nrecently constructed wetland system designed<br \/>\nto treat storm water before it enters<br \/>\nWest Brook and Lake George and also is a<br \/>\npedestrian-friendly park for visitors to stroll<br \/>\nand learn more about our beautiful lake.<\/p>\n<p>The Festival Space is an ideal location<br \/>\nfor special events. Whether it be large or<br \/>\nsmall, this multi-purpose, modern event<br \/>\nfacility was designed to host performing<br \/>\narts, theatre\/dance\/music, re-enactments,<br \/>\ncraft\/flea\/farmers markets, car\/bike\/boat<br \/>\nshows, festivals of all kinds and more.<\/p>\n<p>As we enter 2015, there have already<br \/>\nbeen 14 events booked into the festival<br \/>\ngrounds. These events will not only bring<br \/>\nvisitors to the region but will show to other<br \/>\nevent planners that something unique and<br \/>\nspecial is taking place at the southern end<br \/>\nof lake. We will have a venue that can be<br \/>\nmarketed to event planners not only on<br \/>\na regional level, but on a national scale<br \/>\nas well. Event planners will see a one-ofa-<br \/>\nkind venue with a setting that may be<br \/>\nmatched by only a handful in competing<br \/>\ndestinations.<\/p>\n<p>As a chamber that touts itself as a promotional<br \/>\none, we now have much more to<br \/>\npromote when we start our travel and trade<br \/>\nshow schedules at the end of January. At<br \/>\nsales missions to New York City, Boston,<br \/>\nPhiladelphia, Montreal, and Ottawa, we will<br \/>\nbe speaking about all of these wonderful<br \/>\nnew ventures that are taking place here in<br \/>\nthe Lake George region.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, we will continue to encourage<br \/>\nvisitations for 2015. Regardless what the<br \/>\nfuture holds, Lake George is still a must<br \/>\nsee destination.<\/p>\n<p>At our recently held annual dinner,<br \/>\nGavin Landry, executive director for Empire<br \/>\nState Development&#8217;s Tourism Division,<br \/>\nwas the keynote speaker and his words<br \/>\nregarding tourism in New York state were<br \/>\nrobust and very positive, with a good deal of<br \/>\nemphasis on more international travelers<br \/>\nnot only visiting New York City, but the rest<br \/>\nof the state as well. And we in Lake George<br \/>\nbelieve that once out of the city, there is<br \/>\nno better place to visit than Lake George<br \/>\nand the Adirondacks.<\/p>\n<p>Lower gas prices, a population of<br \/>\nsome 55 million within a 4-6 hour drive,<br \/>\nincreased international travelers and a<br \/>\nbrand that is recognized throughout the<br \/>\ncountry all point to a successful 2015.
