When the Whitehall Marina and RV Park
\nopen this year, each will have new owners.
\nThe marina, previously owned and operated
\nby Bill Brina of Dragon Enterprises, was sold in
\nJanuary to Lynn Wagemann, who will operate it
\nunder the name New Whitehall Marina.<\/p>\n

Sal Panetta is the new owner of the RV park,
\nChamps Campgrounds.
\nPanetta grew up on Long Island and recently
\nmoved to Whitehall.<\/p>\n

“Going to campgrounds as a child during the
\nsummer, you get an idea of what kids want and
\nwhat adults want,” said Panetta. He is using his personal experiences to run
\nthe RV park, which he renamed Champs Campgrounds
\nand RV Park. The facility consists of 26
\nspaces for RVs, as well as two cabins for rent.<\/p>\n

All spaces come equipped with water, electricity,
\npicnic tables, Adirondack chairs, and fire
\npits. For those who like to camp with the finer
\nthings in life, Champs Campground also offers
\nfree wireless internet and cable television.
\nGuests can rent canoes or enjoy a day of
\nfishing.<\/p>\n

Renovations are currently underway at the
\npark, said Panetta. The team is laying crushed
\nstone on the campgrounds. A recreation center
\nis being renovated, which will serve food so that
\nguests do not have to leave to eat. The campground
\nis in the process of obtaining a liquor
\nlicense so adult guests can purchase beer and
\nwine on site. Ping pong, horse shoes, and video
\ngames will be available for children.<\/p>\n

Panetta said families looking for a quiet,
\nprivate, secluded spot to spend their family
\nvacation should look no further than Champs
\nCampground. He plans to open for the season
\non May 1.<\/p>\n

Wagemann, former owner of Hacker Boat Co.,
\nis an avid speedboat racer who is excited to be
\nthe new owner of the marina. He has several
\nideas for New Whitehall Marina.<\/p>\n

“I took some time away from working to
\nspend time with my kids,” said Wagemann.
\nHe came back to the workforce when he saw the marina for sale. “I saw this a unique opportunity.”<\/p>\n

The marina has 50 slips to accommodate
\nboats. The floating docks can be configured for
\nseveral types of watercraft. He expects to be the
\nonly marina in Whitehall this summer.<\/p>\n

Services offered at the marina will include
\ngas and diesel fuel, seasonal docking, pumpouts,
\nmarine supplies, repairs, towing services,
\nstorage, and other services.<\/p>\n

The marina will have a major new twist.
\nWagemann will also operate Tavern at Lock
\n12, a bar and restaurant at the marina site.
\nThe restaurant will be full-service, open seven
\ndays a week and feature pub food, barbecue
\nand some European specialties. There will be
\nlive entertainment during the summer months.<\/p>\n

Wagemann hopes that the marina will help
\nto boost the economy of Whitehall. He believes
\nthat there are many transient boaters who
\nwould enjoy the other nearby attractions, such
\nas golfing, the Adirondack Mountains, fishing,
\nmuseums, and more.<\/p>\n

“I hope we’re in the early stages of revitalization
\nof this area,” he said.<\/p>\n
