The Michaels Group LLC, a Malta-based
\nresidential construction and development
\ncompany, has donated approximately 1.6
\nacres of land adjacent to SUNY Adirondack
\nin the town of Queensbury for the college’s
\nfuture development plans.<\/p>\n
The parcel was appraised at approximately
\n$150,000 and is part of the Hiland
\nPlanned Development District (PDD),
\naccording to Michaels Group principal J.
\nDavid Michaels.<\/p>\n
The Michaels Group had donated a 12.38-
\nacre parcel to the college in March 2010.
\nThe new property–with frontage off Meadowbrook
\nRoad in Queensbury–abuts the
\nprevious parcel, giving the college almost
\n14 acres of property added to its original
\n141-acre campus.
\nThe 14 acres represents the largest donation
\nof land to the college since Glens
\nFalls Insurance Co. donated the original
\nBay Road parcel to the college in the mid-
\n1960s, officials said.<\/p>\n
Michaels said he and his late brother,
\nJohn, had discussed the donation prior to John’s untimely death in the summer
\nof 2014.
\n“Our company strongly believes in giving
\nback to the local community,” Michaels
\nsaid. “We felt the college was a vital local
\nresource providing both quality and affordable
\nhigher education to its students. John
\nwas completely behind the decision.”<\/p>\n
Michaels said the larger of the two parcels
\nwas given to the college with the idea
\nthat the land could be used for athletic
\nand recreational purposes, freeing up the
\ncurrent athletic fields for possible college
\nexpansion.<\/p>\n
The most recent parcel, which is contiguous
\nto the first parcel, has frontage
\nalong Meadowbrook Road and is water and
\nsewer-ready, he said.<\/p>\n
SUNY Adirondack President Dr. Kristine
\nD. Duffy thanked the Michaels Group for
\nthe donation.
\n“We appreciate the continued generosity of
\nThe Michaels Group, and we will incorporate
\nthis additional land into the college’s strategic
