C.T. Male Associates won the American
\nPublic Works Association (APWA), Capital
\nDistrict Branch, 2014 Transportation Project
\nof the Year award for projects costing
\nunder $5 million.<\/p>\n
The award-winning civil engineering
\nproject was the Sand Creek Road reconstruction
\nproject in the town of Colonie,
\nlocated just a few miles from the C.T. Male
\nHeadquarters in Latham.<\/p>\n
Company officials said the project was
\na full-depth reconstruction of an arterial
\nroadway through a fully developed and mature
\nneighborhood. It included a widening
\nof the roadway to accommodate a center
\nturning lane, the addition of concrete curbing
\nand a porous concrete sidewalk, and the
\nreplacement of the sanitary sewer, potable
\nwater, and drainage collection systems.
\nThe total length of the project was approximately
\n5,000 linear feet, officials said. The project also included the replacement
\nof traffic signal systems at two intersections.<\/p>\n
According to the company, what made
\nthis project successful were the open lines
\nof communication and regular meetings
\nbetween the town of Colonie, the engineer,
\nand the contractor. This created a spirit of
\ncooperation between all involved with the
\nproject.<\/p>\n
Residents of the town were introduced
\nto the project at a pre-construction meeting
\nand the contractor, observer and town
\nofficials were proactive in addressing any
\nconcerns. This level of cooperation led to
\nthe project being completed on time and
