Charles A. Guerin, director of The Hyde
\nmuseum in Glens Falls, is leaving the position
\non May 1. The museum’s board of directors is
\nembarking on a search to fill the position.<\/p>\n
Guerin has accepted a new position as executive
\ndirector of the Biggs Museum of American
\nArt in Dover, Del.<\/p>\n
“Charles’ decision was unanticipated but
\neminently understandable,” said Ten\u00e9e Rehm
\nCasaccio, chairwoman of the Hyde’s board of
\ntrustees. “The move to Delaware presents an
\nopportunity for Charles and his wife Katherine to
\nbe much closer to family members in Maryland.
\nWe are grateful to Charles for his leadership and
\nservice, and we wish the Guerins all the best as
\nthey embark on new adventures.”
\nGuerin joined the Hyde two years ago and has
\nbeen instrumental in expanding its permanent
\ncollection through major gifts of art, including an
\nextensive collection of modern American art; a
\nmajor collection of American photography, and
\na collection of 19th century French etchings,
\nengravings, lithographs, woodcuts and books.<\/p>\n
Casaccio said he championed the Hyde’s efforts
\nto reach out in service to the community, with
\nprograms focused on children, families and senior citizens.<\/p>\n
“I have enjoyed my time at The Hyde Collection,
\nworking with its extraordinary staff,
\ndedicated board and outstanding volunteers,”
\nGuerin said. “The Hyde is a gem of an institution
\nand I am honored to have been its director
\nand to have made a contribution to its success.
\nI will miss the congenial atmosphere of its
\nhistoric surroundings, and its truly remarkable
\ncollections. Glens Falls and Queensbury have a
\npriceless asset in the Hyde Collection, an asset
\nthat helps make this community such a unique
\nand special place.”<\/p>\n
The Hyde Collection is one of the Northeast’s
\npreeminent small art museums with a distinguished
\ncollection of European and American
\nart. Its permanent collection spans centuries and
\nincludes works by Rembrandt, Rubens, Degas,
\nSeurat, Picasso, Renoir, Botticelli, El Greco and
\nTiepolo as well as major American artists including
\nEakins, Hassam, Homer, Peto, Ryder, Vedder
\nand Whistler. The Hyde Collection presents major
\nchanging exhibitions in its two galleries, as well
\nas lectures, cultural events, family activities, and
\nschool and outreach programming in its historic
