We have a broad<br \/>\nknowledge base of the bail bonds business because<br \/>\nof our close involvement with the criminal justice<br \/>\nsystem over the years.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;After I was done with my work as D.A., I had<br \/>\ndone some criminal defense work. Through both of<br \/>\nthose avenues, I saw a need for bail bond agencies in the Washington County area,&#8221; Winn said.<br \/>\n&#8220;Nobody<br \/>\nhad a regional bail bonds agency in this area. I knew<br \/>\nSwartz and was familiar with his work. I knew he<br \/>\nhad a lot of contacts in Warren County, as well as<br \/>\nEssex County where he&#8217;s from. Lloyd and I are the<br \/>\nfirst bail bond agents in Washington County since<br \/>\nabout 30 years ago.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Swartz served the city of Glens Falls as a police<br \/>\nofficer for 23 years, retiring as a captain in 2011. He<br \/>\nis also a private investigator.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Both of us have a lot of knowledge of the criminal<br \/>\njustice system, specifically from the police and<br \/>\nprosecution side. We have hands-on experience<br \/>\nwith the bail bond process and how it integrates<br \/>\nwith the entire arrest and release process.,&#8221; Swartz said.<\/p>\n<p>Winn was licensed by the state as a bail bondsman<br \/>\nin 2013, with Swartz following closely behind<br \/>\nin 2014. Winn is also licensed in Vermont.<\/p>\n<p>The partnership set up their official LLC business<br \/>\nstatus for North Country Bail Bonds earlier in<br \/>\n2015. Business has grown steadily, with a referral<br \/>\nsystem based largely upon word-of-mouth.<br \/>\n&#8220;A lot of this process relies heavily upon your<br \/>\nknowledge of how the court system works, your access<br \/>\nto jails, judges and court systems,&#8221; said Swartz.<br \/>\n&#8220;Having experience from being in the process for<br \/>\ndecades makes our approach to this line of work<br \/>\nvery efficient.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to their experience within the<br \/>\ncriminal justice system, the pair cites their 24\/7 accessibility<br \/>\nas one of the agency&#8217;s strengths. Between<br \/>\nthe two of them, someone is always available. The<br \/>\nagency has strategically placed itself in two locations,<br \/>\nwith Winn occupying a presence in Granville<br \/>\nand Swartz occupying Hudson Falls. This allows for<br \/>\na streamlined process of communication covering<br \/>\na large service area.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Working together as a team, we have a lot of<br \/>\navailability, and the ability to get to a lot of places<br \/>\nvery quickly,&#8221; Swartz said.<br \/>\n&#8220;Our clients need to have coverage 24\/7, regardless<br \/>\nof what either of us have going on with<br \/>\nfamily, health or our other bond cases. Working in<br \/>\na partnership allows us to give our clients the 24\/7<br \/>\ncoverage they need,&#8221; Winn noted.<\/p>\n<p>Bail bonds have been secured in as little as an<br \/>\nhour and a half, with longer turnaround times usually<br \/>\nbeing a result of the availability of the court,<br \/>\nwaiting on a judge&#8217;s decision or waiting for family<br \/>\nto come retrieve a client.<\/p>\n<p>Most referrals come from visitors going to see<br \/>\nfriends and relatives in jail. Business cards and<br \/>\nadvertisements can be found in the jail facilities.<br \/>\nInternet web searches and referrals from attorneys<br \/>\nof clients also generate a significant amount of<br \/>\nbusiness.<\/p>\n<p>Winn said the long-term objective &#8220;is to develop<br \/>\na regional bail bonds agency. We proudly cover<br \/>\nWarren, Washington, Saratoga, Essex and Clinton<br \/>\ncounties. We&#8217;re taking a business that did not exist<br \/>\nin this area before, and creating it from the ground<br \/>\nup.
