Adirondack Community College (SUNY

Adirondack) in Queensbury will expand

opportunities for North Country students

who want to turn two-year degrees in communications

into full bachelor’s degrees.

The local college entered into transfer

agreements recently with three other colleges,

the College of St. Rose in Albany,

Siena College in Loudonville and SUNY

Canton College of Technology.

Officials said the agreement with St. Rose

enables SUNY Adirondack students who

earn an associate degree in radio-television

broadcasting to transfer seamlessly to the

corresponding bachelor of arts program in

communications at St. Rose, officials said.

The agreement spells out the specific

courses that students should complete at

SUNY Adirondack and their equivalents at

Saint Rose. Students may transfer a maximum

of 62 credits. Graduates of the SUNY

Adirondack radio-television broadcasting

program will enter Saint Rose with junior

status, according to college officials.

To help transfer students financially,

Saint Rose offers guaranteed two-year

undergraduate academic scholarships to

those who have achieved superior gradepoint

averages for all previous college work.

Scholarships range up to $14,500 per year.

Transfer students who are current members

of Phi Theta Kappa national honor society

are eligible for an additional $1,000 each

year.

Officials said the College of Saint Rose

now has more than 80 articulation agreements

with community colleges and other

institutions throughout the North Country,

Capital Region, Hudson Valley and beyond

in such fields as education, business, computer

science, music, art and psychology.

All are designed to help provide a clear

path for students seeking to continue their

education.

The agreement with Siena College allows

prospective SUNY Adirondack graduates

to seamlessly transfer into one of almost

two dozen bachelor’s degree programs

at Siena. In addition, SUNY Adirondack

graduates could be eligible for guaranteed

scholarships based on earning minimum

grade-point averages while a student at

SUNY Adirondack.

“If a student is accepted at Siena with

a GPA of 3.25 or higher, he or she would

be eligible for a $4,000 scholarship per

semester to a maximum of four semesters,

or $16,000,” said SUNY Adirondack transfer

counselor Douglas Gaulin. “If a student is

accepted at Siena with a 2.8 GPA or higher,

that student would be eligible for a $2,000

scholarship per semester up to $8,000.”

“These new agreements advance our longstanding

partnership and we are grateful for

their generosity in supporting our graduates by creating an affordable pathway to

Siena,” said SUNY Adirondack President Dr.

Kristine D. Duffy.

The agreement will allow qualified students

to seamlessly transfer into any of

the following programs: American studies,

biology, biochemistry, business administration,

chemistry, computer science, creative

writing, economics, English, and environmental

science, environmental studies,

french, history, management, mathematics,

philosophy, physics, political science,

psychology, religious studies, social work,

sociology and Spanish.

The pact with SUNY Canton College of

Technology establishes three new transfer

agreements that allow prospective SUNY

Adirondack graduates to continue their experieducation

and earn bachelor’s degrees in

three new areas. Two of the agreements will

allow SUNY Adirondack criminal justice

police science associate’s degree graduates

to transfer to SUNY Canton and earn a Bachelor

of Technology (BT) degree in either

criminal investigation or homeland security.

The third agreement will allow SUNY

Adirondack graduates of the business administration

associate’s degree program to

transfer to SUNY Canton and earn a Bachelor

of Business Administration (BBA) degree

in management. This particular agreement

will also allow students to complete

the entire degree through online learning.
