Melissa Potter is the owner of Eco Klene,
\nLLC, a tile and grout restoration and carpet
\nrestoration business based out of South
\nGlens Falls.
\n“Eco Klene is an eco-friendly carpet and
\ntile cleaning and restoration company. My
\nproducts are pet and allergy friendly,” said
\nPotter.<\/p>\n

The opening of her cleaning business was
\na product of community service that led to
\nentrepreneurial opportunity.<\/p>\n

“My inspiration started from volunteer
\ncleaning at Pine Knolls Alliance Church.
\nI needed a better way to maintain their
\nfloors. I started doing research and within
\n2 months I opened my own business,” said
\nPotter.
\nShe uses a carpet cleaning method that
\nencapsulates dirt in a way that allows it
\nto be vacuumed out of the carpet with
\nher commercial vacuum. She states this
\nmethod is a more effective way of carpet
\ncleaning than forcing water into the carpet
\nthrough traditional steam and hot water
\nextraction cleaning, as dirt and odors can
\nbe forced deeper into the carpet pad and
\nsub-floor instead of being drawn out.<\/p>\n

“Carpet encapsulation uses a polymer
\nthat encapsulates the soil and grime in your
\ncarpet. The carpet is vacuumed with my
\nBrush Pro 14, and the cylindrical brushes
\ncapture 70 percent of the non-soluble soil.
\nThe carpet is then sprayed with the encapsulant
\nand agitated with the Brush Pro so
\nthe polymer can encapsulate the rest of the
\nsoil. After it dries, it crystallizes. The next
\nday it is vacuumed up,” said Potter.<\/p>\n

She said the benefits are that the dry
\ntime is about 30 minutes, compared to hot
\nwater extraction, which can be 12-24 hours.
\n“There is no chance of mold or mildew and it increases the life of your carpet. This sets
\nme apart from cleaning companies in this
\narea because most people only use a truck
\nmounted hot water extractor.”<\/p>\n

The machine she uses is a Brush Pro 14, a
\ncounter rotation, cylindrical brush machine
\nthat has different brushes for different jobs.
\nPotter also specializes in tile and grout
\ncleaning and restoration. She uses the
\nsame commercial cleaner to address tile
\nand grout.<\/p>\n

Tile and grout in need of restoration “is
\na struggle I have had for years at my own
\nhouse. This prompted me to look into ways
\nto find a better cleaning process,” she said.
\n“We can clean and sanitize floors or do
\nrestorative cleaning when tile and grout
\nhas been neglected,” she says.<\/p>\n

While Eco Klene’s specialty is carpet,
\ntile and grout, the company is equipped to
\nhandle the cleaning of furniture as well.<\/p>\n

“I have a hot water extractor to do stairs
\nand furniture and I have a commercial
\nsteamer with continuous steam. This machine
\nallows me to clean some areas that
\nmy machine can’t reach and to do an extra
\nthorough job,” says Potter.<\/p>\n

Potter is the sole proprietor of Eco-
\nKlene. She is fully insured and is certified
\nby the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning
\nand Restoration. To get the certification,
\nshe took a two-day course, followed by a
\n160-question test.<\/p>\n

“It’s a hard test because they don’t want
\neveryone to be certified. They want it to be
\nelite,” she said.<\/p>\n

“I am extremely meticulous and will
\nstrive for my client to see excellent results,”
\nshe noted. “My goal is to create a personalized
\nrelationship with my clients which will
\nset me apart from my competitors.”<\/p>\n
