“It’s very exciting,” Michael Consuelo, executive
\ndirector of the Lake George Regional
\nChamber of Commerce said about work going
\non this summer on the village’s busy Canada
\nStreet where a Marriott Courtyard Hotel is being
\nconstructed.<\/p>\n

“It’s a pleasure to see the activities taking
\nplace” on the block on Canada Street’s west side (away from the lake) where Guiseppe’s Pizzeria
\nand John Barleycorn’s Pub used to sit.<\/p>\n

A zoning change in 2013 made it possible for
\na six-story hotel to be built, which is what local
\nDavid Kenny is doing, with the Pike Company of
\nClifton Park as the general contractor.
\nThe work is taking place just south of Lake
\nGeorge Central School and across the street from
\nthe public library.
\nSo far, the foundation has been laid and now
\nsteel girders are going up that will support the
\nnew hotel and conference center.<\/p>\n

“Everyone is looking forward to next spring”
\nwhen the facility is open and starts drawing business
\nand people. It will be a year-round hotel and
\nconvention center and Consuelo hopes it helps
\nspawn other businesses that won’t close in the
\ncold winter month.<\/p>\n

The Marriott is being developed by Kenny
\nDittrich Amherst LLC, which is Dave Kenny, his
\nsister Kathleen and her husband, Frank Dittrich.
\nIt will be a 119-room hotel on an approximately
\ntwo-acre plot. It is reported to cost in the
\nneighborhood of $26 million, with construction
\ncosts estimated at $15 million to $18 million,
\nfinanced through TD Bank.<\/p>\n

There will be 38 suites with lake and mountain
\nviews. A 6,000-square-foot restaurant is
\nplanned, along with 2,500 square feet of retail
\nspace and two 5,000-square-foot banquet rooms
\nwith lake views.
\nThe opening is anticipated for May 2016.<\/p>\n

Consuelo said he has been going to trade
\nshows where there are meeting and convention
\nplanners. Even without a lot of materials to hand
\nout, yet, regarding the facility the mere mention
\nhas sparked interest.<\/p>\n

“So there is an awful lot of attention about it.
\nMarriott does very well in the convention arena
\nat its hotels in the United States and around the
\nworld. There’s a lot of interest from potential
