AngioDynamics, a provider of innovative,
\nminimally invasive medical devices for vascular
\naccess, surgery, peripheral vascular
\ndisease and oncology, announced the launch
\nof the Bioflo midline catheter indicated for
\nshort-term intravenous therapies.<\/p>\n
The US Food and Drug Administration
\ngranted 510(k) clearance for the Bioflo
\nmidline catheter earlier this year.<\/p>\n
The catheter often delivers the same
\nmedications, including a variety of antibiotics,
\nas a peripheral intravenous catheter
\n(PIV), the company said. However, midlines
\ncan provide access for up to 30 days while
\nPIVs typically need to be replaced every
\ncouple of days, usually due to performance
\nfailure. Midline catheters are ideal for patients
\nwho may require more than five days
\nof intravenous therapy.
\n“The BioFlo midline catheter is a logical
\nextension of the BioFlo product line,
\nbringing the clinically relevant thrombus
\nreduction properties to patients needing
\nshorter term vascular access to deliver
\ninfusion therapies,” said Chuck Greiner,

\nfunctionality improves patient satisfaction
\nby lowering the number of needle sticks
\nand interruptions to treatment. Similarly,

The BioFlo midline catheter with Endexo Technology is indicated for short-term or up
\nto 30-days of peripheral access to the venous
\nsystem for intravenous therapy, including
\nbut not limited to the administration of fluids,
\nmedications and nutrients; the sampling
\nof blood and for power injections of contrast
\nmedia, the company said.<\/p>\n
“BioFlo product line sales grew at a
\ndouble digit rate last fiscal year and the midline’s
\nlaunch, along with continued account
\nwins and market penetration, position us for
\nadditional solid BioFlo growth this fiscal
\nyear,” said Joseph M. DeVivo, AngioDynamics’
\npresident and chief executive officer.<\/p>\n
Officials said BioFlo technology is not a
\ncoating or impregnated into the catheter.
\nInstead, the Endexo technology polymer
\nis added directly to the base polyurethane
\nduring the manufacturing process. Endexo
\ntechnology is present throughout the catheter
\nmaterial, including the outer surface,
\ninner surface and even the cut catheter tip.<\/p>\n
Endexo Technology is a proprietary polymer
\nthat is present throughout the catheter
\nshaft material and remains present for the
\nlife of the catheter, providing long-term
\ndurability.<\/p>\n
