SUNY Adirondack received an official award
\nletter from the SUNY system confirming
\nselection of the college’s proposal for a High
\nNeeds Grant program to fund a new academic
\noffering in network security.<\/p>\n
Funding in the amount of $77,200 was
\nsecured for the 2015-2016 academic year, with
\nadditional funds possible, school officials said.<\/p>\n
The High Needs Grant proposal was developed
\nin collaboration between Adirondack faculty,
\nincluding professors Karen Woodard and
\nChuck Harrington of the college’s IT Computer
\nNetworking (Cisco Academy) program and
\nTechnology Division Chairman Nicholas Paigo.
\n“I want to congratulate professors Woodard,
\nHarrington and Paigo and others who worked to
\ndevelop this proposal for the Network Security
\nprogram,” said college President Kristine Duffy,
\nEd. D.<\/p>\n
“Network and cyber security are among the
\nfastest growing fields across the globe but also
\nin our service region. With a projected growth
\nof 37 percent for the information security
\nindustry over the next decade, it’s crucial that
\nSUNY Adirondack provide area students with a
\nnew pathway to success in this growing career
\nfield,” said Duffy.<\/p>\n
SUNY High Needs is a competitive grant
\nprogram that funds academic programs that
\nconnect directly to specific workforce needs of
\nNew York state. The program began in 2006-2007
\nwith funding from the State Legislature. Over
\n87 new High Needs grants have been awarded
\nto establish or expand academic programs
\nthroughout New York State. With continued
\nsupport from the Legislature for university-wide
\nfunding, request for applications are released
\nin the winter for the following fall’s program
\nimplementations.<\/p>\n
