The season’s first snowfall has arrived at
\nGore Mountain and several new improvements
\nare ready to welcome guests, including
\nthree more trails, officials at the state-owned
\nfacility said.<\/p>\n
One is Forever Wild, a modern freestyle
\nglade named after the Adirondack Park Forest
\nPreserve. It will combine natural terrain park
\nelements with the excitement of tree skiing,
\nthey said.<\/p>\n
Another is Hudson, located at the North
\nCreek Ski Bowl, which has been refined into
\na long, narrow, black-diamond trail that follows
\nthe original route of the area’s earliest ski
\npioneers. A connector route called The Peace
\nPipe provides a shortcut from the north side
\nof Gore to Pipeline Traverse.<\/p>\n
Another purchase of high-efficiency tower
\nguns continues to modernize Gore Mountain’s
\nfleet of snowmaking equipment, said officials.
\nThis year, the newest guns are placed primarily
\non the Showcase and Wild Air trails. These
\nguns require significantly less air than the
\nmore traditional ground guns, thereby offsetting
\nenergy use.
\nSignificant earth-moving on the Headwaters
\ntrail, which many Gore Mountain summit trails
\nfeed into, is expected to reduce the snowmaking
\nrequired to open it and improve the experience
\nwhile skiing it, particularly during the
\nspring, officials said. The loading area of the
\nStraightbrook Quad was regraded to ease the
\ntransition from Bear Mountain terrain to the
\nentrance of the lift.<\/p>\n
The guest services office was moved to the
\nresort entrance of Gore Mountain, making it
\neasier to quickly locate assistance. The Bear
\nCub Den day care has relocated to a quiet and
\nsecure location on the lower level of the base
\nlodge. Upgrades to the complimentary wireless
\ninternet and new flooring have also improved
\nbase lodge facilities, according to officials.<\/p>\n
Gore Mountain has committed to a 25-year
\nsolar energy contract with Borrego Solar. This
\ncontract means more of the power required
\nto operate ski lifts and make snow will be
\nprovided with clean, renewable energy. This
\nagreement is in keeping with the state’s NY Sun
\ninitiative.<\/p>\n
