Price Chopper is building a new store–one of its Market 32 brands–in Fort Edward on the site of the former Grand Union at 354 Broadway.<\/p>\n
Construction started late last year after the site was cleaned up under the Brownfield program.<\/p>\n
The store will be a Market 32, part of a rebranding and expansion plan for Schenectady-based Golub Corp., owner of the Price Chopper chain of grocery stores. About 100 jobs will be created, the company said.<\/p>\n
D.A. Collins Construction Co. was contracted to do the site cleanup. The town of Fort Edward received a $300,000 cleanup grant through the Brownfield Opportunity Area program. The property was contaminated with PCB material when it was used as a dumping ground for General Electric Co. The 40,000-square-foot store is said to be the first Market 32 built from the ground up in the state. The site is being developed by Kaplan Realty .<\/p>\n
Fort Edward does not currently have a grocery store in town. Officials hope to have the store open in late 2016.<\/p>\n
D.A. Collins is also marketing a 400-acre industrial park in Fort Edward on the Champlain Canal, including 3.5 miles of railroad tracks and also equipped with natural gas lines, electricity, water and sewer lines.<\/p>\n
The site was used as a sediment dewatering site during General Electric’s $1 billion PCB-dredging project on the Hudson River.<\/p>\n
The property is owned by WCC LLC, a real estate holding company associated with D.A. Collins. The company is said to be willing to lease or sell the property.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
