The Washington County Fair Inc.<\/b> announced that five $500 scholarships will be awarded for the 2016-17 school year.<\/p>\n
Eligible applicants are those students who have been, or are currently, active in the fair and who will be students at an accredited institution of higher learning during the 2016-17 term.<\/p>\n
The scholarship program was established as an extension of the educational purpose of the Washington County Fair. This scholarship is issued directly to the recipient.<\/p>\n
The recipients of the 2015-16 scholarships were Kaleb Booth of Greenwich, Bridget L. Burch of Granville, Amanda Marie Davis of Salem and Alana Xiaoying Parker of Greenwich.<\/p>\n
Applications for the scholarships are available at www.washingtoncountyfair.com\/fair-scholarship.html and must be completed online by Aug. 1.<\/p>\n

The Hudson Headwaters Health Foundation<\/b> will hold its 12th annual Care for Kids 5K Run and Fitness Walk to benefit the pediatric program of Hudson Headwaters Health Network. The event will be held at 9 a.m. Sunday, July 31.<\/p>\n
The event course hugs the Schroon River in Chestertown for the first 1.5 miles before crossing over and heading east. The course ends at the former Suzie Q’s Sunshine Caf\u00e9 on the corner of Tannery Road and Route 8 in Brant Lake. Free transportation back to the beginning of the run is provided.<\/p>\n
The entry fee is $25 in advance and $30 after July 22. The first 400 participants will receive a T-shirt.

Lake George Beach<\/b> will be open for two additional hours each day this summer, the state Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) announced.<\/p>\n
The beach, located on the southern end of Lake George along Beach Road in the town of Lake George, Warren County, is open free of charge from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day through the Labor Day holiday. There is a $10 per car fee to park in the parking lot and $6 per car fee after 5 p.m. People who walk in can use the beach for no fee.<\/p>\n
The beach underwent a two-year improvement project that included a refurbished parking lot, reconfigured traffic flow and repaved Beach Road, and a relocated and refurbished boat launch.<\/p>\n
Crews paved the parking lot and Beach Road with porous asphalt and installed new stormwater management infrastructure. The refurbished boat launch includes a boat inspection and boat wash station to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
