MinkyMink, a Glens Falls clothing boutique at 203 Glen St., has undergone a change in ownership.<\/p>\n

Lake George native Maura Bannon took over the business in July.<\/p>\n

“It was an exciting and overwhelming time,” when she decided to buy the business, she said. “But I have an amazing support system of family and friends who helped me through. I had the closing for buying the business at 1 p.m. and then I opened the store at 1:30 p.m., so I dove right in.”<\/p>\n

The boutique offers a wide array of fashionable options.<\/p>\n

“MinkyMink offers curated clothing and accessories at affordable prices,” Bannon said. “Some of the brands we carry are Free People, Alternative Apparel, En Cr\u00c3\u00a8me, Thread & Supply, Olive & Oak and Hunter Boots. We carry clothing for all occasions, but we are known for clothing that can be lived in. MinkyMink is at once modern and comfortably chic.”<\/p>\n

Bannon went to Saint Michael’s College in Vermont and majored in journalism and mass communication with a minor in marketing. After college she worked at Violet’s of Saratoga, a women’s clothing store.
\n“Working at Violet’s really prepared me for owning and operating MinkyMink,” Bannon said. “I was able to learn all aspects of the business, from buying to merchandising, to customer service. It’s all about building relationships … and staying on top of your bookkeeping.”<\/p>\n

Her background in marketing also comes in handy.<\/p>\n

“I worked for a few different marketing firms in the area for the past five years,” Bannon said. “The marketing industry really gave me the skills to create brand awareness for the store and to generate a strong social media presence.”<\/p>\n

For Bannon, fashion runs in the family.<\/p>\n

“My Grandma Jojo was the most stylish women I’ve ever known, and she introduced me to the fashion from a very young age,” she said. “I remember going through her closets and just being in awe of how beautiful her things were.”<\/p>\n

Bannon has always carried an entrepreneurial spirit.<\/p>\n

“It was always my dream to own my own boutique, and the stars aligned with my purchase of MinkyMink,” Bannon said. “I was working on my business plan to open a new clothing store in Glens Falls for over a year when the previous owner of MinkyMink approached me. I crunched some numbers and in the end it was the right move for me. I have always loved MinkyMink, so I couldn’t be happier with my decision.”<\/p>\n

Bannon did everything she could to prepare for her new role. She worked with SCORE, a nonprofit small business mentoring group, in developing her business plan.<\/p>\n

“They are retired business men and women who offer free mentoring services. I would recommend that anyone who wants to start a business or even improve their current business to meet with them. They helped me so much and I can’t stress enough how important it is to have a solid business plan. You need to know what you’re getting yourself in to.”<\/p>\n

Bannon already has some plans in mind for the business. Her short-term goal is to have a grand re-opening party on Oct. 1. It will include cocktails from Springbrook Hollow Farm distillery, a fashion show and giveaways.<\/p>\n

“I’m having fun planning that at the moment. A long-term goal of mine is to eventually sell shoes at MinkyMink. Many people have told me they wish there were more shoe options in Glens Falls, so I plan on launching that endeavor next year,” she said.<\/p>\n
