He started an MX team about four years ago and, as he became more involved, he decided that a family-oriented motocross facility would be a great addition to the region.<br \/>\nNot all residents in the area agreed with Treadway, and he faced some initial opposition to his plan to construct a course on the 106-acre property. When he presented his plan to the town board earlier in the year, one of the biggest concerns was the level of noise from the facility and its impact on the surrounding community.<\/p>\n<p>Four months after his initial presentation, the board approved Treadway&#8217;s plans, with several conditions in place, including one that limits the noise level of each motorcycle to 105 decibels. As part of the agreement, Treadway is required to perform a sound test on each motorcycle before it is permitted to enter the course, and there is to be no alcohol in the pit areas and no other external sounds or lighting that could cause a disturbance to nearby residents.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think a lot of the people who live in the area had a misconception about the sport of motocross,&#8221; said Treadway. &#8220;This is really a family-oriented sport. Not all of us want to play soccer or basketball.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He said when local people came to the course and saw kids and their parents participating in the sport, &#8220;I think their opinion of the sport changed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Treadway said he had people come to ADK MX from all over the region, as well as from New England, during the short time he was open. He is looking forward to re-opening in April.<\/p>\n<p>Customers ride the course as many times as they are able when they buy a ticket for the day. There is a limit of 20 cyclists allowed on the course at one time and each session lasts for about 15 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Treadway said motocross is a physically demanding sport and 15 minutes is a long time to be on the course.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Most riders are through after a couple of runs. It really tires you out,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>Treadway was pleased with the response to his brief opening. During the winter months, he will open the property to cross-country skiers and snowmobilers. He anticipates a busy winter season. There will be groomed, intermediate and advanced 3K and 5K trails for skiers, as well as direct access to the area&#8217;s main snowmobiling trails.<\/p>\n<p>Country Meadows Restaurant is also part of ADK MX and will remain open throughout the winter, offering breakfast, lunch and dinner and a full bar, as well as a patio and fire pit. There is ample parking to accommodate snowmobile trailers.
