Three companies and a nonprofit arts group
\nwere honored on Dec. 4 at the 2015 Washington
\nCounty Small Business of the Year Awards, held at
\nthe Kingsbury Firehouse in Hudson Falls.<\/p>\n

Battenkill Fibers, Pattie’s Patch, Parker Machine
\nCo. Inc. and the Hudson River Music Hall received
\nthe awards.<\/p>\n

The Adirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce
\npartnered with the Washington County
\nLocal Development Corp. to present the awards.<\/p>\n

Battenkill Fibers Carding and Spinning Mill,
\nlocated in Greenwich, began in 2009. Owner Mary
\nJeanne Packer combined her love of knitting,
\ndegrees in engineering and communications, and
\nknowledge of the textile and valued-added agriculture
\nindustries to create the company.
\nIt produces artisan-quality, colored and dyed
\nyarn using traditional semi-worsted milling machinery
\nacquired from other mills from all over
\nNorth America and then brought back to working
\norder. The company provides custom carding and
\nspinning services and manufactures premium
\nknitting yarn and other fiber products for the
\nwholesale market.<\/p>\n

Ten people work full time or part time across the
\nfirst and second shifts at the 6,000-square-footmill.<\/p>\n

Pattie’s Patch in Whitehall started as a dream of
\nPattie and Dennis Sbardella to own and operate a
\nsmall roadside farm stand. It opened in the spring
\nof 1992 in a small shed and has grown to approximately
\n2,000 square feet of interior space, with
\nperimeter space for plants and baked good displays.<\/p>\n

The business provides fresh vegetables and fruits
\nto a list of customers. Pattie’s Patch has grown from
\nemploying one part-time employee to on average
\nemploying 16 part-time and full-time employees
\neach season.<\/p>\n

Since 1972, Parker Machine in Fort Edward has
\nspecialized in precision machining for exacting industries.
\nAs a manufacturer of precision machined
\nparts, it offers reverse engineering capabilities. The
\ncompany works with a wide range of materials
\nfrom titanium to Duplex stainless steel, as well as
\nplastics from UHMW to Rulon.<\/p>\n

The 18 employees rebuild or repair existing
\nequipment or manufacturing new parts that
\nare utilized by pulp mills, valve distributors and
\nmanufacturing plants throughout the United States,
\nCanada and worldwide.<\/p>\n

The Hudson River Music Hall in Hudson Falls
\nwas founded in December 2010 by musician\/
\ncomposer Jonathan Newell. Its mission is “to create
\ncommunity through music and the related arts.<\/p>\n

Its objectives are to enhance the quality of life
\nin the village of Hudson Falls and the surrounding
\ncommunities by providing performance and
\neducational opportunities through music, dance,
\ntheater and the visual arts.<\/p>\n

The building is owned and operated by Hudson
\nRiver Music Hall Productions, Inc., founded by
\nrecord producer Stu Kuby, SUNY ACC Professor
\nNicholas Buttino and community member Judith
\nJohnson. Newell serves as executive director.<\/p>\n

The facility is equipped with a music room
\nfor live performance and a seating capacity is
\n100; an exercise studio for dance, yoga, karate,
\nand private music and art lessons; and a black
\nbox theater with movie screen and lighting for
\nlive theater and music events, with a seating
\ncapacity of 60.<\/p>\n

Sponsors of the event were Adirondack Technical
\nSolutions, Fort Hudson Health System,
\nGlens Falls National Bank & Trust, Robinson &
