FAM Funds has announced the launch of its third, no-load mutual fund – the FAM Small Cap Fund (FAMFX). The new fund seeks to maximize long-term return on capital by investing in a concentrated portfolio of small-cap companies with market capitalizations of between $50 million and $1 billion. Fenimore Asset Management, the investment advisor to FAM Funds, has nearly four decades of experience investing in small-cap stocks.<\/p>\n
According to Tom Putnam, co-manager of the fund and chairman and chief investment officer of parent company Fenimore Asset Management, this is an opportune time to invest in small-cap businesses. The lack of a Wall Street following and generally uncertain market environment has led to considerable pricing inefficiencies in this sector. Putnam says the fund will follow stringent investment criteria to identify companies to invest in for the long term. Typical holdings in the portfolio should have substantial operational history, exemplary leadership, and be profitable. The fund will not invest in start ups.
