{"id":28516,"date":"2017-05-12T13:46:40","date_gmt":"2017-05-12T17:46:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.glensfalls.com\/glensfallsbusinessjournal\/?p=28516"},"modified":"2017-05-12T14:26:22","modified_gmt":"2017-05-12T18:26:22","slug":"business-briefs-may-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.glensfalls.com\/glensfallsbusinessjournal\/2017\/05\/business-briefs-may-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Business Briefs: May 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The <b>Washington County Fair Inc.<\/b> announced that five $500 scholarships will be awarded for the 2017-18 school year. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Eligible applicants are those students who have been, or are currently active in the fair and who will be students at an accredited institution of higher learning during the 2017-18 term. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The scholarship program was established as an extension of the educational purpose of the Washington County Fair. Scholarships are issued directly to the recipient.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Recipients of the 2016-17 scholarships were Ethan Jacob English of Cambridge, Brianna Getty of Hartford, Kaylah Gulley of Greenwich, Tricia Jordan of Greenwich and Bianca Martin of Hartford.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Applications for the scholarships are available on the Washington County Fair website at www.washingtoncountyfair.com\/fair-scholarship.html and must be completed online by Aug. 1.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"> * * *<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><!--more-->The <b>College of St. Joseph<\/b> baseball team will defend their national championship title when they host the United States Collegiate Association Small College World Series for the second year. Events begin Sunday, May 14.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The tournament will take place at East Field Park in Glens Falls. The multi-use facility includes a stadium that can seat up to 7,000 spectators and is home to the Glens Falls Dragons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"> The Small College World Series will begin with fan-favorite activities including the tournament banquet, parade of athletes, and home run derby. Tournament play will begin on Monday, May 15 and a new national champion will be crowned by Thursday, May 18. The tournament will remain as a 10-team double elimination tournament, with all games being seven innings except the nine-inning championship game.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Fighting Saints took home the 2016 USCAA national championship after defeating Cincinnati-Clermont 14-3 in the finals. The team had an undefeated national tournament run, and finished the season 52-11 overall with an 18 game winning streak.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Head coach Bob Godlewski and assistant coach Cam Curler returned more than 20 players from last year\u2019s team.
