{"id":28598,"date":"2017-06-15T14:19:28","date_gmt":"2017-06-15T18:19:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.glensfalls.com\/glensfallsbusinessjournal\/?p=28598"},"modified":"2017-06-15T14:19:42","modified_gmt":"2017-06-15T18:19:42","slug":"nys-grown-stewarts-shops-involved","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.glensfalls.com\/glensfallsbusinessjournal\/2017\/06\/nys-grown-stewarts-shops-involved\/","title":{"rendered":"NYS \u2018Grown &amp; Certified\u2019 Program Expands To Dairy Industry; Stewart\u2019s Shops Involved"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">New York state\u2019s Grown &amp; Certified program is expanding to include the New York dairy industry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The state is partnering with Stewart\u2019s Shops to launch the promotional program that distinguishes agricultural products that are local and made by producers who meet safe food handling best practices and demonstrate environmental stewardship.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Officials said Stewart\u2019s Shops adheres to the state Grown &amp; Certified food safety and environmental management plan requirements. They proudly source all of their milk from local farms in Saratoga, Rensselaer, and Washington counties.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Beginning in July, consumers will be able to find the NYS-certified label on Stewart\u2019s dairy products in more than 300 stores across the state. Stewart\u2019s egg supplier, Thomas Poultry Farm from Schuylerville, is also participating in the program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThe Grown &amp; Certified program connects consumers with high-quality, farm-fresh New York products, while supporting our hard-working farms, businesses and local economies across the state,\u201d Gov.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Andrew Cuomo said. \u201cBy partnering with Stewart\u2019s Shops, we will expand this program to promote and provide a boost to some of New York\u2019s best producers and support the dairy industry\u2019s continued growth and success.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Stewart\u2019s Shops President Gary Dake said, \u201cAt Stewart\u2019s Shops we take pride in providing quality products to our customers, and that includes our fresh, local milk and eggs. Growing up in the dairy business, I know first-hand the hard work it entails. We are proud to now carry the certified seal and continue to be partnered with family farms that uphold high-quality and environmental standards right here in our own communities.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><!--more-->Starting in July, Stewart\u2019s will launch new packaging for their half-gallon milk containers, which will prominently feature the state-certified label and a description of the program. Signs in-store and at the gas pump, as well as a promotional video, are already in stores, helping to educate consumers about the program.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Many varieties of Stewart\u2019s milk, half and half, heavy cream, and ice cream will all carry the certified seal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In addition to Stewart\u2019s dairy products, its eggs will feature the state Grown &amp; Certified seal, highlighting Thomas Poultry Farm. The farm adheres to environmentally responsible practices and exceeds federal egg safety standards, officials said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball said, \u201cStewart\u2019s is a natural fit for New York state Grown &amp; Certified with its reputation for quality products and community connections, which are two of the guiding principles of the program. Not only does Stewart\u2019s milk come from responsible and sustainable, local farms, but Stewart\u2019s also takes extra care at the processing plant. When consumers pick up Stewart\u2019s milk, eggs, and even ice cream, they can feel good knowing they are truly getting some of the best products for their families.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Chris Koval, owner of Koval Brothers Dairy, said, \u201cOur family farm has sold milk to Stewart\u2019s for most of my life, and it\u2019s something we\u2019re very proud of. This new seal promotes what we have been doing all along\u2014working with clean, healthy animals and providing fresh, local, high-quality milk for Stewart\u2019s customers.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Jennifer Thomas, owner of Thomas Poultry Farm, said her farm \u201chas had a strong relationship with Stewart\u2019s for several decades, ensuring that their customers get fresh, local eggs from a family-run farm.
