People will answer based on what they think you want to hear.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Whoever told you that they scream at people?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Or that they will pout?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Instead, ask them to Give me an example of a time that you had a conflict with a coworker?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Tell me the situation and describe how you handled it.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>This change in phrasing allows you see what they do in that situation.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It is no longer hypothetical.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It is behavioral.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It describes their actual behavior in that situation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"><!--more-->What are your strengths (or weaknesses)?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Again, this is not specific.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>You get answers like \u2013 \u201cI have been known to work too hard.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Or, \u201cPeople say, I take my work too seriously.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Focus instead on learning their strengths by asking situational questions.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Give me an example of a time you had competing deadlines and not enough time to complete all your tasks.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Describe the tasks and tell me what you did in that situation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Don\u2019t ask questions that do not make the candidate talk about actual examples of their work history.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We all do what we have always done.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Find out what your candidate has always done, and Hire the People You Want.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Michael Cruz Hiring the right people for your organization is critically important, right?\u00a0 And, interviewing people is the way we determine if they are the people you want.\u00a0 Typical questions often include \u2013 Where do you see yourself in 3 years?\u00a0 How do you handle conflict?\u00a0 What are your strengths (or weaknesses)?\u00a0 These are [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":89,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[9],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-28687","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-business-reports"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.2 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\r\n<title>Business Report: Don\u2019t Ask!
