NY State of Health, the state\u2019s official health plan marketplace, announced that more than 4 million people have signed up for health insurance through the marketplace.<\/p>\n
Enrollment in the essential plan continues to grow, with more than 680,000 enrolled, officials said. The marketplace is ready for its fifth open enrollment period, which begins Nov. 1 and has been extended to Jan. 31, beyond the federal deadline of Dec. 15, to allow New Yorkers sufficient time to enroll.<\/p>\n

The breakdown of enrollment as of Oct. 4 is as follows:<\/p>\n
\u2022 <\/b>Total cumulative enrollment, 4,094,398<\/p>\n
\u2022 <\/b>Total Medicaid enrollment, 2,837,735<\/p>\n
\u2022 <\/b>Total non-Medicaid enrollment, 1,256,663<\/p>\n
\u2022 <\/b>Qualified Health Plan, 227,796<\/p>\n
\u2022 <\/b>Essential Plan, 682,800<\/p>\n
\u2022 <\/b>Child Health Plus, 346,067<\/p>\n
New York\u2019s Essential Plan, launched in 2016 for lower income individuals and families, has proven extremely popular. Enrollment increased by 15,000 people since the end of January 2017. Enrollment in a Qualified Health Plan which can occur only during the annual open enrollment period or under limited circumstances outside the open enrollment period, remains at 94 percent of the enrollment level at the end of January 2017 meaning most Qualified Health Plan consumers have kept their coverage throughout the calendar year.<\/p>\n
Officials said consumers in all counties of the state have a robust selection of health plans to choose from. New York expects to both renew coverage for more than 400,000 households during the open enrollment period and enroll new consumers. Most Marketplace consumers qualify for financial assistance to pay for coverage. Among QHP enrollees who qualify for tax credits, premium costs for the most popular silver plan will be about the same or lower compared to last year.<\/p>\n
