The Charles R. Wood Foundation is currently accepting grant applications from IRS approved 501(c)3 organizations whose projects or programs assist children, healthcare or the arts in the Lake George region and surrounding areas.<\/span><\/p>\n

Eligible applicants are invited to visit www.charlesrwoodfoundation.com to submit an online application by April 1 for consideration at the spring meeting of trustees.<\/span><\/p>\n

The next subsequent deadline will be Sept. 1 for consideration at the fall meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n

Over the past five years the foundation has awarded over $7.8 million.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are so pleased to be able to invest in such worthwhile projects. From the smallest soup kitchens to the larger capital projects, we are committed to investing in children, healthcare and the arts in our geographical focus area\u201d, said Charlene Wood, foundation chairperson.<\/span><\/p>\n

Charles R. Wood established the foundation that bears his name in 1978 to provide assistance in areas of special need in the region. Grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations with an emphasis on programs for children, healthcare and the arts.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The following grants to area nonprofit organizations totaling $1.4 million were awarded in 2017:<\/span><\/p>\n

$250,000 to the Adirondack Historical Association for the Adirondack Experience exhibit; $250,000 to the Albany Medical Center Hospital for the Pediatric Emergency Department;<\/span><\/p>\n

$150,000 to Saratoga Springs Performing Arts Center Inc. for the replacement of the gazebo stage; $125,000 to Double H \u2013 Hole in the Woods Ranch, Inc. for various capital improvement projects;<\/span><\/p>\n

$100,000 to Glens Falls Hospital Inc. toward the CT Simulator for the CR Wood Cancer Center; $75,000 to the Boys And Girls Clubs Of Schenectady Inc. for the Quackenbush facility; $50,000 to The Hyde Collection Trust for the Transformation: The Feibes & Schmitt Project;<\/span><\/p>\n

$50,000 to Caffe Lena Inc. for renovations and repairs; $37,500 to Hudson River Music Hall Productions for the purchase of the concert sound system for the Strand Theater Revival; $30,000 to the Dollywood Foundation for the Imagination Library Program in the New York counties of Essex, Clinton, Franklin and Hamilton;<\/span><\/p>\n

$25,000 to the Village Of Lake George for the Shepard Park Amphitheater improvements; $20,770 to the Indian Lake Central School for the performance space updating; $20,000 to the Sunnyview Hospital and Rehabilitation Center Foundation for the purchase of a functional electrical leg and arm stimulation cycle; $15,220 to the Indian Lake Volunteer Ambulance Corp. Inc. for the purchase of one CPR device;<\/span><\/p>\n

$15,000 to Silver Bay Association for Christian Conference and Training for the Open Pathways Summer Camp, youth scholarship, and after school programming; $13,725 to the Ticonderoga Central School District for the Ticonderoga area BackPack program; $13,000 to the Ellis Hospital Foundation Inc.\u2019s expansion and enhancement of mental health services for adolescents;<\/span><\/p>\n

$12,500 to Keene Valley Neighborhood Services Inc. for the purchase of a new transport van; $12,500 to North Country Ministry for their 25th Anniversary Campaign; $10,000 to Haynes House Of Hope Inc. to create a 4-season sunroom; $10,000 to X-Quest Inc. for shower and plumbing improvements for the Getting Clean program;<\/span><\/p>\n

$8,200\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>to Glens Falls Area Youth Center Inc. for flooring replacement; $7,500 to Special Olympics New York Inc. for the Summer State Games; $7,500 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of The Southern Adirondacks Inc. for school-based mentoring; $7,500 to The Mentor Connector for the Foster Care Mentoring Program; $6,000 to Families First In Essex County Inc.\u2018s for the 2017 Summer Camp at Southwoods;<\/span><\/p>\n

$5,000\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>to the Albany Jewish Community Center for Early Childhood Center security initiative; $5,000 to Bus Stop Club Inc. for Camp Week; $5,000 to Historic Salem Courthouse Preservation Association Inc. for the Lunch, Learn & Play program; $5,000\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>to Lake George Opera Festival Association Inc. for Opera Saratoga\u2019s Young Artist program;<\/span><\/p>\n

$5,000\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>to Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council Inc. for the upgrade of the Lapham Gallery lighting system; $5,000 to the Town of Johnsburg Library for solar panels on the library building roof; $5,000 to Camp Bravehearts – An Oncology Camp for Women; $5,000\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>to Parsons Child & Family Center for Camp to Belong-New York;<\/span><\/p>\n

$4,855\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>to Little Theater On The Farm Inc. for the barn restoration; $4,570 to Adirondack Folk School for refit and expansion; $4,272\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>to Caritas Inc. for the Volunteer Recruitment and Training\/ Public Outreach programs; $3,500 to Amorak Youth Home Inc. for Hudson Falls Heroes program; $3,260\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>to NYSARC Inc. for the Autism Expo & Art Exhibit and Sibshops programs;<\/span><\/p>\n

$3,000\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>to North Country Healthy Heart Network Inc. for bike helmets, education materials, and props for the Franklin County Safe Routes to School program; $2,800 to Glen Falls Operetta Club Inc. for the sponsorship of the Fall presentation of \u201cOliver\u201d; $2,743\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>to the Glens Falls Symphony Orchestra Inc. for the purchase of stand lights; $2,500 to Champlain Children\u2019s Learning Center Inc. for playground upgrades; $2,500 to the Adirondack Shakespeare Company for Co-Curricular Educational Tours: Academic Year 2017-2018; $2,500\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>to Adirondack Treks Inc. for the Johnsburg Youth Committee 2017-2018 school year field trips;<\/span><\/p>\n

$2,500\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>to Mercy Care For The Adirondacks Inc. for the Eldercare program; $2,300 to Adirondack Mountain Club Inc. for the Snowshoes for Three Seasons at Heart Lake School outreach; $2,000 to Camp TLC for Camp Moki; $2,000 to Castleton Community Seniors Inc. for SCAMP Summer Camp for Children; $2,000 to the Pember Library & Museum for the children\u2019s programs;<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, $15,235 was granted in smaller denominations to benefit various other regional not-for-profit organizations.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Charles R. Wood Foundation also recognizes the increased need for food supplies in the area\u2019s food pantries. Grants amounting to $155,800 were given for the summer and holiday seasons of 2017 to pantries in the Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Hamilton, Fulton, Saratoga, Warren, Washington counties of New York and Bennington, Rutland and Windsor counties of Vermont.<\/span><\/p>\n
