{"id":31218,"date":"2018-09-14T10:37:13","date_gmt":"2018-09-14T14:37:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.glensfalls.com\/glensfallsbusinessjournal\/?p=31218"},"modified":"2018-09-14T11:24:34","modified_gmt":"2018-09-14T15:24:34","slug":"lake-george-land-conservancy-30th-anniversary-event-lauds-accomplishments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.glensfalls.com\/glensfallsbusinessjournal\/2018\/09\/lake-george-land-conservancy-30th-anniversary-event-lauds-accomplishments\/","title":{"rendered":"Lake George Land Conservancy 30th Anniversary Event Lauds Accomplishments"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_31219\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-31219\" style=\"width: 901px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-31219\" src=\"https:\/\/www.glensfalls.com\/glensfallsbusinessjournal\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/109\/2018\/09\/lglc-event-hc.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"901\" height=\"666\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.glensfalls.com\/glensfallsbusinessjournal\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/109\/2018\/09\/lglc-event-hc.jpg 901w, https:\/\/www.glensfalls.com\/glensfallsbusinessjournal\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/109\/2018\/09\/lglc-event-hc-300x222.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.glensfalls.com\/glensfallsbusinessjournal\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/109\/2018\/09\/lglc-event-hc-768x568.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 901px) 100vw, 901px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-31219\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Children participate in events at LGLC\u2019s 30th anniversary event in Bolton Landing.<br \/>Courtesy LGLC<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">More than 250 people came out to join the Lake George Land Conservancy (LGLC) at its 30th Anniversary party in Bolton Landing on Aug. 18.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The LGLC organized the family event to honor all of those who have been a part of its history, and welcome those who wished to be part of its future of protecting Lake George.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe\u2019ve had an amazing 30 years of protecting the land that protects the lake,\u201d said Executive Director Jamie Brown. \u201cThanks to the many donors, landowners, volunteers, and community partners, more than 10,800 acres of land has been conserved &#8211; that\u2019s nearly one acre every day, that is now permanently protected, working to filter water, reduce erosion, and keep Lake George healthy and clean.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Guests were able to participate in a guided hike, learn about local raptors with Nancy Kimball, experiment with a hands-on river model with Jim Lieberum from the Warren County Soil and Water Conservation District, color and make buttons and animal tracks, and get their faces painted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Plaid Pancake, the Adirondack Pub and Brewery, and 9 Miles East provided a variety of food and each vendor donated a percent of the day\u2019s proceeds back to the LGLC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The event only paused once for a brief welcome by Brown, who also shared some information about the organization\u2019s recent and historical accomplishments in conservation. The staff then took a few moments to present certificates to its volunteers of the year. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Kurt and Florrie Stoffel, and the Morrison Family (Dr. Joanne, David, and Sam Morrison) were recognized for their devotion to the LGLC through volunteerism at events and with general assistance throughout the year and in past years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Since its incorporation in 1988, the LGLC and its partners have permanently protected 10,867 acres of land and over 6.5 miles of Lake George shoreline through purchased and donated land acquisition, conservation easements and innovative community collaborations. In addition, the LGLC creates and maintains more than 38 miles of trails for year-round recreation and educational opportunities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Lake George Land Conservancy is an accredited nonprofit land trust based in Bolton Landing, dedicated to working with willing landowners and other partners to protect the water quality of Lake George and to permanently preserve the natural, scenic, historic and recreational resources of the Lake George region.
