Things people can do to get results from their team, and to make leading a team a little less miserable.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cI tell the story of how I first became a manager, and really struggled in the beginning,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd I did a lot of research, reading over 50 white papers. I tried to be the channel to distill everything I learned throughout my career, and through extensive research.\u201d<br \/>\nRollo said the predominant struggle is that some people struggle to step into an authority role. \u201cThey may have the title, but they\u2019re afraid to do anything because they don\u2019t want to hurt anyone\u2019s feelings,.\u201d<br \/>\nOthers grasp authority too hard. \u201cThey need everyone to know they\u2019re the boss,\u201d he said.<br \/>\n\u201cBoth approaches are a road to trouble,\u201d said Rollo. \u201cI address this in the book. It usually plays out in how people deal with conflict.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cIt\u2019s easy to be the boss when everyone just says, \u2018I agree, I\u2019ll do whatever you say\u2019. But most of the time it is not like that. In real life, there is frequently conflict. When you\u2019re a team member, you can try to stay in your own world. When you\u2019re a leader, you cannot just ignore it when your team is in conflict. You must be the one to step up and deal with it. If you\u2019re uncomfortable with that, the conflict grows,\u201d said Rollo.<!--more--><br \/>\nSome managers are in their role through merit, some develop management skills through training, and some land in their position by default of being the only person available when the previous director leaves, he noted.<br \/>\n\u201cThe book is to help people, bottom line,\u201d said Rollo. \u201cLeadership can be a headache sometimes. Some things work, some things don\u2019t, and managers are often stressed trying to figure those things out.\u201d<br \/>\nRollo is also host of the podcast \u201cLead with Impact\u201d, found on Apple iTunes, Spotify and other podcast platforms.<br \/>\nThe book can be found on amazon.com.
