{"id":37199,"date":"2024-03-17T11:18:17","date_gmt":"2024-03-17T15:18:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.glensfalls.com\/glensfallsbusinessjournal\/?p=37199"},"modified":"2024-03-17T11:18:17","modified_gmt":"2024-03-17T15:18:17","slug":"suny-plattsburghs-school-of-business-offers-business-classes-to-medical-center-leaders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.glensfalls.com\/glensfallsbusinessjournal\/2024\/03\/suny-plattsburghs-school-of-business-offers-business-classes-to-medical-center-leaders\/","title":{"rendered":"SUNY Plattsburgh\u2019s School Of Business Offers Business Classes To Medical Center Leaders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Gerianne Downs,\u00a0Associate Director of<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Communications<\/p>\n<p>SUNY Plattsburgh\u2019s School of Business and Economics has partnered with CVPH Medical Center to bring its business expertise to employees in leadership there.<\/p>\n<p>The in-person program, launched last semester, is a six-week series of classes held on the CVPH campus and taught by SBE faculty from different disciplines as well as SBE alumni.<\/p>\n<p>Brian Neureuther, dean of the School of Business and Economics, said the program was a year in the making, when CVPH President Michelle LeBeau reached out to him \u201cabout the possibility of training staff in management,\u201d Neureuther said. \u201cWe began discussions \u2014 the university\u2019s provost, myself, Dr. Samy Garas and CVPH management \u2014 to talk about their needs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The resulting classes cover managing organizations, evidence-based decisions, regulations, accounting and finance, leadership, and strategy, with the first cohort, which are all day and taught on Fridays, beginning in October last year.<\/p>\n<p>The next session began after the start of the spring semester in February and will run through mid-April; the third session will begin in May and run into June. Garas, associate professor of accounting, expects to see it continue.<\/p>\n<p>After last fall\u2019s pilot program, an invitation was extended to Alice Hyde Memorial Hospital in Malone, Garas said. Now, half of the participants drive the hour to and from Malone on class days to participate.<\/p>\n<p>Neureuther said that negotiations took time \u201cbecause we wanted to fully understand what it was that they needed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"><strong><span class=\"s1\"><span class=\"s2\"><!--more--><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span>\u201cWe realized that the majority of the materials we developed are general enough that they could be applied to many other service industries and manufacturers or any group looking to educate their workforce on business management principals, data analytics and leadership,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Garas said the plan is to provide micro-credentials to those participants to complete four of the six classes.<\/p>\n<p>Class size has been in the 15-20 range, Garas said. And while CVPH pays the university for the program, Neureuther said it\u2019s more about giving back to the community.<\/p>\n<p>Garas agreed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCVPH has given so much to the community, it\u2019s time for us to give back to them by creating this program. We\u2019re reaching out, taking our expertise and bringing that out into the community,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt touches on pillars of Plattsburgh Next, our strategic plan,\u201d Neureuther said. The four pillars are grow and stabilize enrollment, strengthen student success, prioritize equity and inclusion, and engage the North Country region.<\/p>\n<p>Krista Bull, a North Country native and CVPH nurse manager, is a member of the current cohort.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love learning,\u201d said the SUNY Plattsburgh Class of 2008 nursing alumna. \u201cIt\u2019s great way to venture into leadership. I\u2019m so glad we partnered with SUNY Plattsburgh.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bull said the classes have been rewarding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome things are review, but other things are totally new concepts.
