In the late 1980s a group of young Glens Falls natives were on a weekend camping trip in the Adirondack foothills. Through extremely poor planning, they found themselves with nothing but a depleting supply of adult beverages, a couple of tents, and a pound of uncooked bacon. They were hungry, they were tired and they were desperate.<\/p>\n

One of the campers, William Cantwell, was new to the region but had an idea. He suggested that each person take a slice of raw bacon, hang it off of a stick, and cook it over the campfire the same way you would toast a marshmallow. The rest of the group was skeptical but
\nCantwell was persistent, insisting that he used to eat it all the time in his former home of Miami.<\/p>\n

Hesitantly, each took a strip of bacon, hung it off of a stick, and held it over the fire. It did not go well. Each slice of bacon burst into flames, very quickly igniting the sticks. One camper panicked, heaved his stick and caused some nearby brush to catch fire. Another, refusing to admit defeat, tried to take a bite from his flaming bacon but quickly stopped after burning his mouth on the hot grease droplets coming from the end of his stick. The others dropped their bacon into the fire quickly, in an early admission if defeat.<\/p>\n

Sound pretty dumb? Unquestionably dumb. But now, over 20 years later, the idea of Bacon on a Stick has not only resurfaced but is being PROPERLY prepared and served
\nin Camden yards – Home of the Baltimore Orioles. It’s been talked about on several news outlets including NBC Sports and The Washington Post. The concept is simple; large slabs of bacon on sticks, served in National Bohemian (Natty Boh) bottles. Just what the doctor ordered on an 95 degree July day.<\/p>\n

Feedback from Baltimore has been positive so far. If the success continues, don’t be surprised to see this at a ballpark near you very soon. Let’s face it, dehydrated people buy more beverages and nothing’s going to dry you out more than a couple slabs af nice salty bacon.<\/p>\n

As far as William Cantwell and his Bacon on a Stick “prototype” is concerned, he’s happy that the idea is finally taking off. He recently joked, “Once again my genius has been hijacked by the profiteers! You’re welcome Baltimore. The salmonella is on the house.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
