The Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council (LARAC) is popularly known for its annual arts festival, but the organization also manages an art gallery in its downtown Glens Falls building. As a part of this year’s gallery season, LARAC’s Lapham Gallery will feature an “Environmental Portraits” art show starting July 8.

“Environmental Portraits” consists of installation pieces, as well as drawn, stitched, and painted artworks by four different artists. The works highlighted in the art show either explore portraiture or provide an image of our society or place. The featured artists include Kamilah Campbell, Susan D’Amato, Patricia Dolton, and Teri McCans:
Kamilah Campbell received her B.F.A. from Clemson University and her M.F.A. from the University of Notre Dame, with a minor in Gender Studies. She is currently an Adjunct Instructor of Art at Brazosport College.
Susan D’Amato earned her B.F.A in Painting, with concentrations in Drawing and Anthropology, from the University of Connecticut. She received her M.F.A. in Drawing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. D’Amato has been the recipient of many national and international awards, and her drawings are included in the curated registry of The Drawing Center in New York City.
Patricia Dolton earned her B.A. in History from SUNY New Paltz and her Master’s in Information Science from SUNY Albany. Dolton taught herself embroidery and crewel work while working as a seasonal Interpretive Ranger at Saratoga National Park. Dissatisfied with common patterns, she has since designed many of her own based on formal and informal portraits.
Teri McCans earned her B.F.A. from the College of New Jersey. Much of her work has been inspired by her two overseas combat tours in Iraq and experience as a firefighter. As a result of her contact with other cultures, McCans’ work focuses on how environments impact and shape people.
To celebrate the opening of “Environmental Portraits,” there will be an Opening Reception on Friday, July 8, from 5:00PM-7:00PM. The free reception will include a performance by Dave Moore, a member of local Irish folk band Craic Agus Ceol.
LARAC’s Lapham Gallery is free and open to the public Tuesday – Saturday, 10:00AM-3:00PM, and the art show will be featured from July 8 – August 10. Don’t miss out on this diverse collection of artworks!
