If you’re looking for something to do tomorrow evening, Salem Art Works is hosting an artist reception for Vermont-based Friedrich Gross. His work is bright, whimsical, thought-provoking, and he has a fascinating background.
Born in Switzerland, Friedrich Gross started his art career as a house painter in Zurich before moving on to the New York City, where he painted controversial murals on buildings and showcased his art at local galleries.
Over the years he expanded to painting furniture, panels, and canvases, and also started drawing, sculpting, and etching. Today, Gross resides in Vermont, where he’s been since the late 1980s, continuing with his art and tending to his farm and flock of animals.
Gross’s vivacious work depicts bright colors, quasi-abstract images of people (or faces) and animals, and is backed with a touch of folklore and fantasy. Come see the pieces for yourself at Fredrich Gross Artist Reception at Salem Art Works’ North Main Gallery on Friday evening!
