Senator Chuck Schumer made his first visit to Glens Falls as Majority Leader this morning with one message: help is on the way! He was joined at The Wood Theater by a few members of the community, where he discussed the American Rescue Plan and other exciting efforts that will benefit the region.
Local governments in the Glens Falls Region will get $30 million from the American Rescue Plan. The local officials allocating those dollars have a lot of flexibility, because they know the needs of the community best! The funding can be used to improve broadband access, help small businesses, tourism businesses and much more. Increased child tax credits, earned income tax credits, and direct stimulus payments are also part of the bill. Keep an eye on your mailbox early next week if you’re still waiting on your stimulus check – they will all be mailed shortly after Easter.
Schumer also discussed the Save Our Stages Act and the Restaurants Act, which provide funding to performing arts/live music venues and restaurants, respectively. As so many businesses are struggling, these efforts should help keep their doors open, stimulate our economy, and get artists and restaurant workers back to work.
The Small Business Administration will accept Save Our Stages applications starting April 8th, and Restaurants Act applications a couple of weeks later.
